Inside the Numbers: Involved in the offense
   April 4, 2012 (7:28 AM) by Matt

It is no surprise that Clint Dempsey is having a great season with Fulham in 2011-12.  With a goal and an assist this past weekend against Norwich City, he now has 13 goals and five assists in league play, something only four other players can claim in the Premier League:  Robin Van Persie (Arsenal), Emmanuel Adebayor (Tottenham), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City).

That alone is impressive, but when you also look at Fulham, a team that is historically not an offensive juggernaut (Fulham ranks 10th this year with 39 goals scored), Dempsey has been involved in a lot of Fulham’s goals. In fact, he has scored or assisted on 18 of Fulham’s 39 league goals (46.2%).  That 46.2% is actually the second-highest percentage in the Premier League through this past weekend’s games.

Also not surprising, Robin Van Persie being #1 since he has been playing on beast mode this year (26 goals AND 10 assists!).

When looking at the top guys from Spain, Italy and Germany (as well as England), he has the 17th highest percentage when looking at involved in the highest percent of a team’s league goals scored, but here are all guys from those four leagues who have been involved in at least 50%.

Also when looking at those three other leagues, Italy only has three players with 13+ goals and 5+ assists (Antonio Di Natale, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Miroslav Klose), Spain has only three players (Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema) and Germany has four (Claudio Pizarro, Marco Reus, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Robert Lewandowski).

Not bad Deuce, not bad.

As for two other little stat factoids that have nothing to do with Clint Dempsey, but I thought they were interesting enough (I tweeted these the other night).

* With two goals this past weekend, Terrence Boyd has now scored seven goals in his last seven appearances between club and country.

* And with his two goals this past weekend, Andrew Wooten has now scored 14 goals in his last nine games with Kaiserslautern’s reserves (including 1+ goal in each of the nine games).

Great numbers. Keep these stats flowing. Deuce has been big for Fulham this year. Don’t get me started about Wooten not playing regularly with Kaiserslautern. Boyd will surely be in Jurgen Klopps plans for significant playing time with the frist team come next season.

  2. Trent Hill says:

It’s amazing to me that Wooten isn’t starting for Kaiserslautern too. I think it confounds everyone, most of all Wooten.

Deuce has been on a real tear. With the form he’s on, plus the form Donovan showed at Everton, and how well both Jermaine Jones and Michael Bradley are playing–I suspect world cup qualifying will be fun to watch.

  3. Andy says:

Enjoy these stats. Looks good for Arsenal that they may be getting Podolski this Summer, which would give them 2 of the top 3 on the list in all of Eurpoe.

  4. Trent Hill says:

Good god, Herculez Gomez scored 2 more tonight, plus an assist. He has 11 goals in his last 8 games–anyone know how many assists? At least one.

  5. Greg says:

Actually, Deuce has 6 assists on the season.
