This and that for Wednesday
   February 22, 2012 (5:46 PM) by Matt

A couple things for Wednesday.

The US U-23s defeated FC Dallas in a scrimmage, 2-1, earlier today.  The U-23 goal scorers were Ike Opara and Brek Shea, while Shea and Kofi Sarkodie each picked up two yellow cards and were both sent off during the game.

I also missed this yesterday, but Sebastian Lletget has been added to the U-23 roster for this month’s camp.

As we reported yesterday about Ricardo Clark being on trial in Norway with Stabæk, Clark signed a loan deal with the club earlier today.  Clark will be with the Norwegian side until July 31.  Stabæk don’t kick off their 2012 season until March 25.

In a battle of German-American forwards in the German Regionalliga earlier today, Terrence Boyd and Borussia Dortmund II defeated Andrew Wooten and Kaiserslautern II, 2-1, with both Boyd and Wooten each scoring a goal in the match.

And for those of you wondering where the US roster for the upcoming friendly against Italy has been hiding, Jurgen Klinsmann is supposed to announce the team on Thursday.

  1. Kyle says:

was there any reason why Wooten clan wasn’t called into the u-23, club prohibiting time away, or did he just not get the call he deserves?

  2. Trent Hill says:

Sounds like he just didn’t get a well-deserved call-up, which is unfortunate. Klinsi’s biggest benefit thus far has been his ability to bring in German-American players and he’s done a stellar job. Bradley identified some too.

    Andrew Wooten
    Terrance Boyd
    Jermaine Jones
    Danny Williams
    Fabian Johnson

Hell, half our squad is german american.

  3. Award says:

By all accounts Wooten should be in this camp over Bunbury or McInerney. Not liking his snub. Wooten is scoring goals not only for his club, but had scored a couple goals for the U-23′s in previous camps. Bunbury and McInerney have not, and Agudelo hasn’t really produced when called in either. If he gets snubbed in favor of Bunbury or McInerney for the qualifying tournament; I am not going to be happy. Hell he has a better strike rate than Terrence Boyd this season.

  4. Andy says:

Amen to that Award. Hopefully there’s some reasoning we don’t know about as to why he wasn’t called in.

  5. Cody says:

    Andy, I’m sure there is.

  6. Kyle says:

He just can’t catch a break, alas stuck in the reserves when no one on Kaiserslautern’s first team can score.

  7. Chris says:

Prediction of starting 11 for Italy
    Howard
    Cherundolo Goodson Bocanegra Chandler
    Jones
    Bradley Torres
    Dempsey
    Donovan Altidore

  8. bird says:

Boyd got his FULL team call up! So there is spot on the U23 roster open right now, hopefully they call in Wooten to replace Boyd.

  9. Trent Hill says:

Calling in Wooten to replace Boyd would be a great move.
