As for why he was so far up the pitch, I think they send him up there late in games if they are trailing since he can sort of play a target forward role (sort of guessing here).
He’s played that role for other teams too. When he was at Milan I remember him moving up to forward near the end of a game when they were chasing a goal. I guess he’s so good in the air they figure he’s useful up top at times.
Was this a first leg? And what’s with Onyewu being in that position to score? I love it, I’m just curious.

I can see why he is scoring goals–he is a better finisher than the strikers!
