Random odds and ends for Tuesday night
October 18, 2011 (9:47 PM) by Matt Benson     Email This Post Email This Post

A bunch of random stuff that I have been meaning to post over the last couple days.

As for the series history for the USMNT against their November friendly opponents (W-L-D):  0-0-1 vs. Slovenia and 0-2-0 vs. France.  The lone game against Slovenia was in last year’s World Cup, while they haven’t played France since 1979.  Slovenia is currently ranked #33 in the lastest FIFA world rankings, while France is ranked #12.

You might have noticed that Howie and I have been trying to do a lot more “Inside the Numbers”-type pieces lately.  Howie did one on the lack of offensive production by the USMNT in recent times.  I did one last week on why Herculez Gomez is a super sub.  I am also finishing up one on Jurgen Klinsmann’s start as head coach of the USMNT compared to all other managers that should hopefully be up later this week.

Speaking of things we have been doing on this site recently, this is awesome.  Dolla dolla bill y’all.

I hope everyone who follows this site is aware that Eric Wynalda is now on twitter.  And this makes Howie and myself very happy.  Speaking of Mr. Wynalda, he doesn’t hold back on a recent radio interview with The Total Soccer Show when he breaks down the USMNT’s performance against Ecudaor.  Also, I am generally not a huge fan of sports radio, but I have enjoyed The Total Soccer Show since Howie brought it to my attention.

As for some news/links.

Josh Gatt is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a hamstring tear.  I doubt he would have been called in, but that will knock him out of the friendlies in Europe in November.

Frank Simek will miss more time after picking up a calf strain in training after finally returning from his thigh injury.  Can’t catch a break.

We won’t be following the U-15 team on here anytime soon, but I found this interesting.

And finally, Brian Sciaretta has an interview up with Danny Barrera.  Barrera is a 21-year-old midfielder who recently signed with FK Spartak Zlatibor Voda of the Serbian Super Liga.

As for two non-soccer recommendations for the hell of it (one TV/one music) since I am a weird mood tonight:

TV – The Walking Dead
The season two opener on Sunday was great and the ending was “oh snap”-tastic.

Music – The Naked & Famous
I saw them in concert last night and they put on a hell of a show.  Check out Young Blood or All of This.

One Response to “Random odds and ends for Tuesday night”

  1. Gregory says:

In the rare chance Klinsmann’s son is a World Class class player like his father, he might not even start for USMNT cuz he a goalkeeper. AHHH we need strikers and defenders. Keepers are the only position we have always had Champions League quality.
