Here is some news for Monday
August 22, 2011 (6:07 PM) by Matt Benson     Email This Post Email This Post

It is looking more and more like FC Dallas’ George John will be headed to Blackburn.  Since he is a Greek citizen, he just needs a Greek passport to be registered as a EU player and avoid the whole “he needs to have played in x% of USMNT games over the last two years” rule to get a work permit.

While he did appear in Europa League last week for Rangers, Carlos Bocanegra (and Alejandro Bedoya) did not play this past weekend in Rangers’ Scottish Premier League game since he hadn’t received his work visa yet . . . until today.

Mikkel Diskerud did an interview with some local Norwegian press where he talks about hoping Jurgen Klinsmann calls him in at some point and moving to a more central midfield role with Stabæk.

Speaking of Klinsi, Matthew from The Shin Guardian takes a stab at the USMNT roster for the upcoming friendlies.

And finally, it is not often we have highlights from the English Conference National (the fifth tier of English soccer), but here is Euan Holden’s goal for Stockport County against Kettering Town from last week.

I looked Matt’s prediction, but considering Klinsmann wants both friendlies to have the same squad, it will probably be very off. I completely disagree with Adu and Gil being called up, that’s just plain overhype on both of them. Calling up both now would just mean that both have done enough work to be serious key players, which either of them arent. Adu cant just suck for two years, play well for 2 USMNT games, and suddenly be back in the picture, that’s overhype. Gil is too young at 17, he should be a u20. I can think of guys better than Brad Evans and Davis is just too old at a position where we have at least five guys in front of him. These friendlies need to contain the dual nationality guys like John and Mix to show that we really do want them. I also believe that while Diskerud has been “called up” he denied them.

I agree that George John, Mix, and Adrian Ruelas should all get call-ups. People with dual nationality need to be shown here that we’re interested.
