As speculated yesterday, Freddy Adu has signed with the Philadelphia Union. He will get the chance to reunite with Peter Nowak, his first professional coach when he was at DC United.
Alejandro Bedoya was able to secure his UK work permit, allowing him to join Rangers in January. Bedoya agreed to a pre-contract deal which he will sign once his contract with Swedish side Orebro SK ends this winter.
Thoughts on either move?

I think both moves are good. For Adu it well be good for him to get some consistent playing time and maybe a few more starts for the USMNT. Hopefully it could lead to a real move to Europe for a team that wants to play him and not just sign and shelf talent because if we’re honest Adu is one of the USA’s two or three best talents and I would hate to see it wasted in the MLS or on some euro teams reserves. As for Bedoya its unfortunate nothing has been worked out to get him to Glasgow early but this should work out to be a great move for him and get him some higher level playing experience.
Freddy is the best technical player in the US player pool. Feilhaber is not in his class in terms of touch and dribbling. Freddy outclasses any attacking US player. His services from corners are the best in the US pool. The US really doesn’t have anything close to a elite free kick specialist other then him. However he does have downside with injuries and I hope 2nd Div Turkey ended any thoughts of diva WR QB athletes in the NFL.
I also ponder his age, because life in Ghana is something we have no concept of and shouldn’t judge if he is one or two years older then is listed age. I do believe he is 22 but would not be shocked or care if he is a little older.
Looks like Robbie Keane is coming to MLS too. Should be interesting.
The Adu move is a good one, both for him and for the Union. Adu needs stability, a good coach, and the ability to develop. The Union will give him all three and make him a much better player. And since he’s a DP, he’s not just another MLS player–so he’ll likely stay on the national team radar.
Bedoya going to Rangers is good news for him. Rangers play at a higher level than Orebro and the EPL scouts regularly attend their games.
Trent, please tell me you aren’t kidding about Keane. That would be LEGIT!
William, it”s been all over the soccer web today that LA is actively shopping Juan Pablo Angel in an attempt to clear space for Keane.
William, I’m not. They’re unloading Angel in exchange for Keane.
I’m pumped about it. I’ve been a Keane/Republic of Ireland fan since 2002.
Trent Hill, good post regarding Adu, but what does being a Dp have anything to do with staying on the usmnt’s radar? If he plays well, he will continue on to be a regular call-up.
I don’t know about that. It’s easy for a normal MLS player to get lost in the shuffle or overshadowed by European players, even if the MLS player is a stand-out. For example, Brad Davis is the assist leader in MLS but amazingly didn’t get a call-up to this last game. There’s a ton of midfielders in MLS, who aren’t DP, who can make the argument for inclusion–but being an American DP in MLS gives you the leg up, I think.
According to Goff:
“Unconfirmed but hearing Adu will earn 500K (prorated in ’11), 600K and 750K guaranteed over 3 seasons”
That’s good money.
Thats as much as Samuel Eto’o will make in his first game for this russian team he’s going to transfer to.
Well Adu isn’t Eto’o. lol
still, its just rumors but half a mil euros a game. fun money
Eto’o is making something like 13x the amount of the average resident of his new city…per match.
Good God.
