This would be great for all involved (Adu, Union and MLS). I can’t see any negative from this move.
Problem is that he is a creative attacking type of player, and MLS tends to diminish the skills of these types of players either through injury or defensive minded tactics, just like what happened to Feilhaber.
Freddy Adu is the best dribbler on the USA team. During the Gold Cup he was the only player that could dribble calmly while taking on defenders or take some one on one. Dempsey cannot consistently take people one on one, and Donovan relies on his speed to dribble.
@ussoccerdudes: Or perhaps Benny Feilhaber was never that good. The MLS didn’t make him worse. Benny was always a Bob Bradley favorite. I think the level of play in Denmark is still a bit better than the MLS (at least in terms of tactics) and Benny couldn’t play consistenly well there. To think he would become a star overnight in the MLS is wishful thinking.
Benny Feilhaber has had a strange career. At one point, he had something like 40 senior league appearances and 30 international appearances. When healthy, he was pretty good for AGF. His time in New England’s hard to judge because that team isn’t very good. I’m pretty sure that Shalrie Joseph started a match at striker in a 4-4-2 earlier this year.
