Vincenzo Bernardo looks set to land with the Harrisburg City Islanders

The one-time Napoli youth just finished a stint in the Austrian third division. He previously had interest from the Rochester Rhinos of USL Professional Division, but now he looks set to join the Harrisburg City Islanders of USL Pro.

Via PennLive:

The hope is he can eventually sign with the club and contribute down the regular season stretch and into the playoffs. The former United States U-17 and U-20 player is known as an attacking midfielder and/or a forward and will certainly help fill the void created by our recent injuries and the six match suspension of Brian Ombiji.

Now, from his own Twitter account:

I’m wearing the number 7 for the rest of the season. Get your jerseys now!! #Bernardo7

The City Islanders are affiliated with Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union, so if Bernardo can perform well (much like Sheanon Williams did last year) he might have an outlet for signing with MLS. The City Islanders are currently 2nd in the National Division of USL Pro with an 8-5-5 record. They have been around since 2004 which is actually pretty impressive for the 3rd division of American soccer.

Would have liked to see him wearing the Rochester #7. Oh well.
