The US U-17 team was knocked out of the U-17 World Cup with a 4-0 loss to Germany earlier today. Highlights of the melee can be found here. I did not see any of the game, but it sounds like Germany was in total control.
Brent Latham, reporting from the scene in Mexico, found some bright spots with the US U-17 team now that they are knocked out. He also has a report about which U-17ers have some European interest. I saw most of the group play games and the two guys that caught my eye were Alfred Koroma and Mario Rodriguez.
Staying with the youth scene, Greg Seltzer has five guys on European reserve/U-23 teams that we should keep an eye on for this upcoming season, including Will Packwood and Joe Gyau.
University of Louisville defender Austin Berry is currently in Sweden on trial with Örebro SK. I wonder if they have an “American quota” (not really) with Alejandro Bedoya rumored to be on his way out this summer.
Steve Cherundolo is going to miss most, if not all, of Hannover 96’s training camp due to a torn ligament in his ankle that he picked up in the Gold Cup final.
Jeremiah White was last seen in Europe with GKS Bełchatów in Poland before returning to the US with the hope of joining a MLS team. After not much luck with the Philadelphia Union, White can now be found in Germany on trial with 2. Bundesliga side Alemannia Aachen.
Steven Goff has a quick little update on Freddy Adu. The plan is to head back to Benfica for preseason training then see what happens from there (whether that means a loan deal or somehow staying with Benfica).
Matthew over at The Shin Guardian decided to do a rebuttal article to Grantland.com’s Bill Barnwell. Barnwell wrote an article blasting US Soccer/Bob Bradley over the player selection for the Gold Cup. It was funny talking to Howie about Barnwell’s article earlier this week, but I could only shake my head and laugh when I saw Barnwell suggest Marvell Wynne for the back line while on twitter during the Gold Cup final. Oh well.
I’m thinking of starting a thread tomorrow where we can list the best Americans to suit up for the USMNT all-time who have less than 10 caps, so get the hamsters started in your head so you will be ready to go tomorrow. I am going to flip through a USMNT media guide looking at various players to list either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Matt likes soccer. He likes sleeping in. He is also amused easily. That is pretty much it.
