Alejandro Bedoya added to USMNT Gold Cup roster
May 29, 2011 (6:01 PM) by Matt Benson     Email This Post Email This Post

Fresh off a 1-0 victory over GAIS in the Swedish Cup, a report out of Sweden is claiming that Alejandro Bedoya has been called in by the US for the Gold Cup.

Bedoya is more than likely taking the roster spot of Benny Feilhaber, who was injured late in the New England Revolution’s 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy on Saturday.  He fell to the ground after tweaking his ankle and had to be helped off the field.

Feilhaber did not speak to reporters after the game and the team has not announced the severity of his injury, but he was seen wearing a boot and using crutches.

While we are on the topic of the Gold Cup, Brian Sciaretta talked to Timothy Chandler’s agent about his exclusion from the roster.  Howie has also started our 12-team preview of the Gold Cup by looking at Costa Rica.  And don’t forget to sign up for our Gold Cup Contest.

I’ve never been more happy about someone being injured.

  2. tom says:

It is nice to see Bedoya on the roster now, but I would rather have Benny on the squad between the two. So I don’t know that I am “happy” about this injury.

  3. Ufficio says:

What tom said. On the other hand, if it were Rogers who had been injured…

  4. Steve Trittschuh says:

Bedoya deserves to be there. Has better pace and can create more chances than either Feilhaber or Rogers.

One star in the Allsvenskan > two good but not great players in the MLS.

  5. Ian says:

I think it’s obvious that Bedoya is a better all around player than Rogers but I think if you want to stretch play on the wings then Rogers is the better option. I feel like that also explains why Rogers was chosen over Brad Davis. He provides speed that neither Bedoya or Davis posess and that can be used as a tactical advantage. Bedoya has played on the wing for the U.S. before and has underwhelmed. Now if we’re talking about the attacking mid in a 4-2-3-1 then I prefer Bedoya over Adu, Feilhaber or Kljestan right now.

  6. Alex says:

Doesn’t get me too excited as I know Bob will play him out of position on the wing anyway rather than in the center, where he has looked pretty good.
