Bob Bradley picked his 24-man roster for the upcoming friendlies.
Some new faces, including Timothy Chandler, Zak Whitbread (yay!) and David Yelldell.
GOALKEEPERS (3): Marcus Hahnemann (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Tim Howard (Everton), David Yelldell (MSV Duisburg)
DEFENDERS (9): Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Etienne), Jonathan Bornstein (UANL Tigres), Timothy Chandler (FC Nürnberg), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jay DeMerit (Vancouver Whitecaps), Oguchi Onyewu (FC Twente), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United), Zak Whitbread (Norwich City)
MIDFIELDERS (9): Michael Bradley (Aston Villa), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Mikkel Diskeruud (Stabaek), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (AGF Aarhus), Stuart Holden (Bolton Wanderers), Jermaine Jones (Blackburn Rovers), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht)
FORWARDS (3): Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), Jozy Altidore (Bursaspor), Edson Buddle (FC Ingolstadt)
I am also a little surprised to see Juan Agudelo’s name since the CONCACAF U-20 Championships basically overlap with these friendlies.
Thoughts on the selections?

Can’t complain too much.
If I had to nitpick, where is Lichaj.
But for a Bob Bradley-selected team, not bad.
i wanted to say the same thing about where is lichaj on the roster, i mean bob bradley gonna pick bornstein and demerit instead? bornstein isnt getting enough min and he just sucks and demerit i dont think he played for any team in while until now, eric at least is getting full 90min ever game since he joined leeds united. other than i cant say anything negative about the roster.
Noooo! Why Bornstein or DeMerit??? Lichaj and Gonzalez should replace these two!!!! Other than that I am OK!!!
I like it except i would say lichaj and lloyd for bornstein and demerit.Other than that I like it a lot.
After looking over the roster more, another name out there that has been getting regular minutes that was not selected is Jose Torres. I guess he could have been picked over Benny (hasn’t played in a while with the winter break) or Sacha.
Honestly the biggest surprise to me is Jay Demerit. He hasn’t played in a competitive match since the Ghana match last June. With his move back to MLS I had the sense that he had been phased out of the national team picture. I suppose that Dolo-Gooch-Demerit-Boca might still be the best back line option.
No Lichaj is also surprising. I thought that Agudelo was going to be the with U-20s, I suppose this is Bob’s way of saying he expects him to be in the Gold Cup mix.
Glad to see Yelldell, Whitbread, and Chandler.
yeah, i’m so sick of bornstein. fine, he’s fast. that’s it. i will say i am relieved not to see bedoya. i don’t rate him at all.
im glad to see how much hate is being dished to bornstein haha obviously not a good player, dont mind demerit b/c we might need him for the gold cup but could have been interesting to give a guy like agbossoumonde another chance, really wanted lichaj because i think he will be our maicon or ashley cole, i think he is really going to take off over the next 2 years
Bornstein hasn’t been playing at all with his club, and when he is playing for them he’s been playing center mid. I understand that Bradley trusts him and all that, but aren’t friendlies supposed to be for trying new players out???
nothing good is being said about bornstein in everyones comment i read because its all true
Bornstein is one of those players Bob Bradley clearly likes, but whose play recently should not warrant a call-up. Don’t get me wrong, he’s had very good moments in years past, but until he can find a way towards receiving regular minutes he should join Demarcus Beasley on the “has been” roster.
I do like Bradley bringing in Whitbread, Chandler and Yelldell though.
