  1. Alex says:

This roster appears to be extremely experimental with the inclusion of all the college kids and the exclusion of the German reserve players and Zahavi (who I thought was one of their better players). Good to see Gatt and Doyle finally receive a call-up, although one wonders how valuable Doyle is if Derby is letting him go despite being so close to promotion land.

  2. Matt says:

I think Doyle is more a “player for the future” for Derby than someone they expect much from right now. The only reason he played at the beginning of the season was because they had like 3-4 forwards get hurt and one or two guys were out on loan.

So I wouldn’t think this means they don’t think highly of him. He said in that YA article I linked the other day that Rongen tried to call him in earlier months, but Derby didn’t allow it since they needed him on roster for the bench.

  3. Alex says:

Good point Matt. Even so, if I were the coach at Derby I would want my best possible 18 week in and week out right now. They’re so close to promotion. Chances like this won’t come every season for them.

But I’m sure Derby does think highly of him, and hopefully next season Doyle will receive more playing time and make more of his opportunities.
