Here are some random stories and tidbits I have come across this weekend.
The Carlisle News and Star has a story from last Thursday where Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott confirms that he is trying to extend Mike Grella’s loan deal.
Grella came over to Carlisle United from Leeds United on a month-long loan deal on October 12, but Abbott would like for Grella to stay around longer.
“There are goals in him and top performances in him, and he has got to set his standards way up in the sky because he is a terrific player.
“He loves it here. If we can agree something with Leeds that would be good for the team and for me.”
Grella has scored two goals in four games with the Cumbrians. Carlisle United’s next game is against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday in the third round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Greg Seltzer had an interview up on MLSsoccer.com on Friday with Colin Burns. The back-up goalkeeper at Sarpsborg was hoping the team can get promoted into the top-flight league in Norway. And he thinks there is a decent chance he will become the starter by next season.
Limited to three games of NM Cup action this term, the 28-year-old Delaware native has been told by management to be ready for 2011.
“[The club] have high expectations for me and fully expect me to take over as the first ‘keeper next year – hopefully, in the Tippeligaen,” said Burns. “With my experience of being in this exact same situation two years ago in the [Swedish] Allsvenskan with Ljungskile, I’m going to be an invaluable member of the team next year.”
Since that interview has been up, Sarpsborg defeated Alta this weekend, 4-0, securing their second place finish and a promotion into next year’s Norwegian Eliteserien.
And finally, YA Video Highlights posted some video interview where it looks like some fans and media members have been criticizing Clarence Goodson’s decision to sign with Brøndby IF in Denmark . He looks pretty defensive of his decision in the interview.
