Rhett Bernstein, one of those random Americans in Scandinavia that we’ve always enjoyed following, scored five goals in the Tippeligaen during Mjøndalen’s glorious one-year run after years of toiling in the second division. Alas, Mjøndalen was indeed relegated, and Bernstein opted to depart the club.
At the time, he indicated that he was interested in a first-division opportunity, but it appears that that didn’t materialize, as he has opted to sign with Miami FC of the second-tier North American Soccer League.
He’ll get to call Alessandro Nesta “Coach” and Paolo Maldini “boss”, as Miami FC randomly has some big names involved. They’ve also actually signed some decent players already, with old OT favorite Brad Rusin, longtime New York Red Bulls winger Dane Richards, and longtime EPL veteran/two-time Honduran World Cup-er Wilson Palacios.
