Anthony J. Soares came first to La Manga to train and play matches with Viking. Then he was with Stavanger, before all agreed that Jåttåvågen the next venue for the central defender.
The American, who also holds Italian passport, comes from its domestic league (Major League Soccer) and over 100 games for New England Revolution.
Soares is 183 centimeters tall and born on 28 November 1988. He plays mainly defender and has in their home country has been described as tactically wise, but physically when necessary.
Soares has got costume number 5 in Viking. He has signed a contract that extends over 18 months.
After playing in last year’s MLS Cup, it looked like Soares was headed to Italy and Hellas Verona but those plans fell through (thanks to Rafa Marquez?). After a training stop with Bob Bradley at Stabæk, Soares made his way to Viking where he has now signed a contract for 18 months.
Viking finished in 10th place in the 18-team Tippeligaen in 2014, three points behind the Fighting Bob Bradleys. The club was founded in 1899 and has won eight league titles, third most in league history, but hasn’t taken home the league title since 1991.
And I can’t end a post on A.J. Soares without posting this GIF.
