Some links before the weekend

Mix Diskerud and his majestic hair scored a goal yesterday in Europa League action.  You can check it out here.  Three other guys scored goals yesterday in Iceland and Finland.  As always, our goal tracker has all the information on those.

Mix Diskerud wasn’t the only player in Europa League action on Thursday.  Sean Reynolds (FH) and Pablo Punyed (Stjarnan) are also advancing to the second qualifying round with Mix (Rosenborg), while Jordan Seabrook and VPS lost their first leg lead and were knocked out.

Clint Dempsey was on Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday and here is the whole interview for those of you who missed it.

Birmingham City’s website broke some news yesterday.  They posted that Will Packwood was invited to the US U-23’s August friendly.  While this might also be the new U-21 team which is supposed to bridge the gap between the U-20 team to the Olympic and/or senior team, some form of a “Above-20″ youth team is having a quick camp and playing the Bahamas senior team in Nassau, Bahamas on August 6.  Hopefully US Soccer puts out a release on this game in the near future.

Speaking of young players to keep an eye on, Screamer came out with a Top 10 list of young players we could see on the 2018 World Cup team.  If you follow this site, you should probably know all of those guys.  If not, here is a chance to learn some more.

While everything has gone quiet on the DeAndre Yedlin-to-Roma front, Ives is hearing that the Roma deal is not as close as people think and that teams from Spain, Italy (including Roma) and England have expressed interest in Yedlin.

There was some talk earlier this week that teams from Europe were interested in Matt Besler and it looks like SC Freiburg might be one of those teams.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet thinks, barring any hitches, Jozy Altidore should be good to go once he returns to the team’s preseason camp.

AZ Alkmaar manager Marco van Basten doesn’t appear to be overly impressed with Freddy Adu.  But it sounds like Adu did set up one of the goals in AZ’s friendly from Wednesday.

US U-20 midfielder Emerson Hyndman put in another 45 minutes with Fulham’s first team in a 4-2 loss to Rangers yesterday.

Jon Paul-Pittman is joining Dagenham & Redbridge’s training camp in Spain.  That is probably another step closer to potentially making the team.

Gedion Zelalem is back in preseason training with Arsenal and their new Puma gear.

Here are some more photos of Junior Flores playing with Borussia Dortmund’s U-23 team.

Brian Sciaretta caught up with Jeb Brovsky to talk about Brovsky’s loan to Norwegian side Stromgodset.

Jose Torres came off the bench in Tigres’ 4-1 loss to Morelia in the first leg of the SuperCopa MX on Wednesday.  Herculez Gomez was an unused sub on the bench.

Howie’s new favorite random player might be Tigran Tiraturyan (take that Alex Nimo and Fuad Ibrahim!) as he passed along this link to me about the Armenian-American signing with FC Pyunik in Armenian Premier League.

Enjoy the weekend.

Adu & Dutch league make sense. Flair with no defense.

  5. William says:

    danniil,

    Is this confirmed?

  6. daniil says:

well… it was being reported on la marca’s full site, so at the time I was thinking “gee that’s credible” but on second thought… possibly not. La marca’s quality of reporting…. ehhhhhhh

  7. Bird says:

Emerson Hyndman played with Fulham’s full side again against motherwell today. Came on as a sub and assisted on Fulham’s 2nd goal. Good stuff. Looks like the kid may start the season with the senior side.

  8. Gregory says:

Any one know when Bessler will be a free agent. MLS is the stingiest league with transfers.

  9. daniil says:

matt besler is from KC, he does a lot of community service around KC, he is quite close to his family, which lives predominantly in KC. Sporting have 2 spare DP slots. Unless the club sells him (and maybe not even then) I have a hard time believing he’d want to leave.
