Mike Grella signs with the Carolina RailHawks
April 25, 2014 (1:41 PM) by Howie Michaels     Email This Post Email This Post

Mike Grella, once upon a time a frequent sub for a Leeds United team earning promotion to the Championship, has bounced around Europe for a while, mostly in League One and League Two of England. Most recently, he had a very brief stint in the 2nd tier of Denmark.

Now, he’s trying his luck stateside and going home (in a way) as he links up with the Carolina RailHawks of the 2nd-tier North American Soccer League. While Grella is a New York native, he played collegiately for Duke and played for the RailHawks’ PDL affiliate in 2008, so it’s an organization he has some familarity with.

So, sorry to those who looked forward to our biannual updates on who Grella had mutually agreed to part ways with next.

Howie once received a death threat at a USA-Brazil friendly. He still believes in Fred Adu. He plays forward in coed rec, although not well.
