Just got off a two hour conference call at work (ugh) to see this great news.  Here is the official press release by US Soccer, which has a quote from Green saying Clint Dempsey was involved in the recruiting process.

    Time to blast “Song 2″….

  3. Dirk says:

I wonder if a guaranteed WC roster spot came with his switch?

  4. Todd T says:

Breaking news!!!!! J Green decides to move to MLS for guaranteed playing time before the World Cup.

^can’t blame him, somebody’s gotta compete with zusi and brad davis /s
Just on pace alone, he’s a good guy to have as the 21st-or-so man on a world cup roster. Wouldn’t break my heart to see him on the plane… we’ll see how he does in the friendlies.

  6. Trent says:

He’s going to be on the plane. I don’t think Klinsi gets him to file the paperwork without guaranteeing he gets a spot.

Hell, depending on how well he plays in the friendlies, it’s not out of the question that he’ll get significant playing time. Lets see what the kid’s got.

And I know Todd T was kidding, but I would love to see him get loaned to an MLS team. Just so I could watch him play.

  7. TC says:

Big freaking news gents! Gives us a real shot in the arm that we need after the last few months crap form of Clint and Jozy. I think he could bring some creativity that we need going forward. We’ll see but def a big get for the future.

  8. daniil says:

dempseys been looking pretty good for seattle so far, we’ll see if he can carry that forwards

  9. Jerry says:

As the resident Bayern expert on this site, I would say that this basically guarantees that Shea does not make the final World Cup squad.

Green has been doing so well at forward in the Regionalista for the Bayern reserve squad that they have taken to playing him on the wings to make him a complete forward for Pep’s system.

While this is a huge get, still not sure how I feel about a guy just parachuting in at the 11th hour above some players who have been trying for years to make the squad. Just feels dirty even though I know Green is a superior player…

  10. CP says:

Jerry – if Mix or someone else like him gets knocked out, I’m sure it would hard for them. On the other hand, I can’t believe Shea would be as much of an issue as he has not yet broken through in either the Premiership or even the Championship. Further, Klinsmann has been clear it is all about competition, so no one should feel they own a spot on the team…

  11. Jerry says:

Not bringing Shea pre-Green would be an issue. Tell me who would create on the left? Both answers would be left backs (Beasley and Johnson), hardly an ideal situation.

For as bad as Shea can be at times, and he can be quite bad, when he is on he gives us something we don’t currently have in the squad. Landing Green potentially adds depth to this situation and removes the reliance on Shea.
