Here is your US-Ukraine pre-game primer

Here is a quick rundown of things you might want to look at before today’s game.

» The game is at 2 PM Eastern on ESPN2, WatchESPN and UniMas.

» Ukraine is ranked #18 by FIFA and #21 by Elo, while the US is #13 by FIFA and #13 by Elo.

» Here are the official game notes by US Soccer.  As for some random stats/facts:

The US is 0-2-1 all-time against Ukraine with Ukraine winning the last meeting, 1-0, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on October 23, 1993.  This is also the first meeting between these two teams outside the United States.

This will be the US’s first neutral site friendly since beating Australia, 3-1, in Roodepoort, South Africa prior to the 2010 World Cup.

With 52 career wins, Tim Howard is one win shy of tying Kasey Keller for the most in USMNT history by a goalkeeper.

» The usual suspects, The Shin Guardian and The Yanks Are Coming, have some game previews up for you.

» Here is a US Soccer video on Edgar Castillo and his family.

» Some other goodies from around the interwebs to read:

Apparently all the cool kids are doing oral histories of the 1994 team as here is another good one by Seth Vertelney.

ESPN’s Doug McIntyre takes a look at Landon Donovan’s legacy with Donovan turning 32 yesterday.

Brad Friedel thinks, and I think most would agree, that the weak link position-wise for the USMNT right now is the backline.

While Aron Johannsson is having himself a nice little season, some people might be forgetting how well Terrence Boy has been playing this year as well.

Stuart Holden will undergo a scan of his knee in the UK before heading back to the US to meet up with his surgeon to check out his knee.

And finally, as expected, Michael Stephens has signed with Bob Bradley’s Stabæk.

As much as I like Brooks, I’ll be the first to admit he just played himself off the plane to Brazil:(. The only reason I don’t say the same about Onyewu is because Klinsmann may like his experience, though he may be rethinking that now. Cameron was the best US player and he just cemented his spot at RB with Cherundolo seemingly set to retire soon.
