Fabian Johnson will be joining Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer

It’s been reported for some time that Fabian Johnson wouldn’t be re-signing with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (probably because they broke up his bromance with Danny Williams when they sold Williams to Reading), and Hoffenheim was unable to unload him in the transfer window. There has been a standing rumor that Johnson would be signing with Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer, and now the rumors are true:

“Fabian Johnson is a very interesting player, moreover he is a free agent, who can play at left-back and at left-midfield. We are delighted that he has opted to play for us,” Moenchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl told the club’s official website.

You might remember Borussia Mönchengladbach from when AS Roma’s Toronto FC’s Michael Bradley played there. Currently, BMG sits in sixth place in the Bundesliga (four spots ahead of Hoffenheim), six points out of 4th place and a coveted Champions League berth.

Perhaps the left wingback can teach Mario Rodriguez, currently playing with Mönchengladbach’s U-23s, some things on the finer points of life in Germany.

Howie once received a death threat at a USA-Brazil friendly. He still believes in Fred Adu. He plays forward in coed rec, although not well.
