Jozy looked pretty decent today. Still flubbed his one great chance. Would have done so much for his confidence.

  2. Ian says:

That picture perfectly exemplifies what Altidore faces on a daily basis. I’ve seen quite a few posters on other sites crown Johannsson and Gomez the USMNT’s starters in Brazil based on Altidore’s slump, but even the basement-dweller defenses he faces are considerably harder to break through than anything Johannsson or Gomez really face. I’ve seen Altidore beast mode centerbacks while being the lone striker for the past 2 games and then I’ve seen Johannsson run past traffic cones and play easy 1-2’s with his partners up front. At this point I still see Altidore starting up top with Gomez with Johannsson coming of the bench (although I could see those 2 being flipped). Don’t get me wrong I’m really excited about Johaannsson and like what I’ve seen from Gomez at Tijuana, but I think it’s still way too early to discard Altidore to the bench based on his goals column.

Jozy will start of course there is no doubt. For some reason I just don’t see Herc in the picture anymore. He’s workman-like but every time I think about AJ’s goal against Pananma it makes me think his technical prowess exceeds anything Gomez, Wondo or even Eddie can deliver.

    Gomez are u serious dude…

  5. Slinker says:

By far his best 90 of the season. I don’t think he’s in danger of being dropped for the next match. Interestingly, it seems that Steven Fletcher has dropped to 3rd on the striker depth chart as The new signing Scocco made the 18 ahead of him. I wonder if it will stay that way.

  6. Jerry says:

The saving grace for Jozy in the pecking order is that him and Borini seem to be the best pairing.

@Ian, Herc is my favorite player, but there is no way he is getting into this squad given his injury history. The real question will be who will play second striker: Dempsey or Iceman? If we’re going on history Dempsey, if we’re going on for Iceman.

Jurgen is still going to have to figure out some things, because Zusi has to be on the right. When he’s on the left he just puts on average performances unless it’s when he overlaps with a technical midfielder who can play both wings as well like Donovan.

  7. Trent Hill says:

If you don’t think they’re at least considering Herc for the WC squad, you’re deluded. He won’t be in the starting 11, I don’t think, but I could easily see him in the 23.

Jozy, AJ, Dempsey, Herc. Boyd and EJ just missing out.
