Having enjoyed relative success (which is to say that he’s actually played) during his early days on loan at Barnsley, Brek Shea and Barnsley have decided to go steady for a little longer and extend his loan for another two months.
The gangly Texan has started both matches since arriving at Barnsley. The Reds had been 1-5-5 in their previous 11 matches before the loaned reinforcement; they’re 1-0-1 since acquiring the former MLS MVP finalist. As always, correlation implies causation, so I’m extrapolating that form and assuming that Barnsley averages 2.0 PPG from here on out and avoids relegation (they currently sit in last place in the Championship, six points from safety but do have a match in hand).
Playing time is obviously huge for Shea, and Barnsley is obviously desperate to add to their English record for most seasons spent in the 2nd flight. It’s been a mutually beneficial deal thus far, so it makes sense to extend it.
