Thursday morning links

Remember when we thought DaMarcus Beasley was headed to Queretaro?  But then his agent chimed in that it wasn’t 100% true?  It looks like the deal is not 100% official, but has been agreed upon.

In the good-to-hear department, there is a good chance that Steve Cherundolo could return to Hannover 96’s starting lineup this weekend.

In the not-as-good-to-hear department, Timothy Chandler hasn’t heard from Jurgen Klinsmann in the last couple months.  Looks like he could be on the outside right now.

Steven Goff caught up with Oguchi Onyewu to talk about his move to QPR among other things.

Julian Green has been added to Bayern Munich’s 23-man roster for the FIFA Club World Cup, which will be played in Morocco this month.  Bayern Munich’s first game will be on December 17 against the winner of Guangzhou Evergrande (China) vs. Al-Ahly (Egypt).

I guess there were some rumors that Sacha Kljestan picked up some skin cancer, but Grant Wahl found out that he only treatment for some pre-cancerous spots on his face.

Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt want to bring in Zarek Valentin permanently for next season.  Valentin appeared in 27 games for Bodo/Glimt last season while on loan from the Montreal Impact.

Greg Seltzer has some transfer goodies on Juan Agudelo, Fabian Johnson and Michael Parkhurst.

Seltzer also crunched some numbers on Americans who have played in Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Cup or Cup Winners Cup.

Brian Sciaretta talked to Will Packwood this week about his comeback from the last year.

To close out the Centennial, US Soccer is selecting its all-time USMNT XI.  Here are the eligible players.  Alexi Lalas also selected his roster.  If I had to pick a team, I would go with (4-2-3-1 since Dempsey is listed as a midfielder and not forward):  Keller; Cherundolo, Pope, Bocanegra, Agoos; Renya, Bradley; Donovan, Dempsey, Ramos; McBride

I posted the US U-17 highlights yesterday from their 2-1 loss to Portugal from earlier this week.  US Soccer has now put up the whole 90 minutes.  They also bounced back from that loss with a 5-1 win over England.  Monterrey FC’s Joe Gallardo had a hat trick, while LA Galaxy Academy’s Haji Wright scored the other two goals.  The team finishes up the 2013 Nike International Friendlies with a match against Brazil on Friday.

Fulham’s U-18 team advanced to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup after beating QPR 4-1.  Emerson Hyndman scored one of the goals off a “Beckham-esque” free kick.

US U-18 midfielder Kyle Scott made his UEFA youth league debut earlier this week with Chelsea’s U-19 team.

The folks over at Soccer by Ives talked to Zach Pfeffer about his year spent with Hoffenheim.

And finally, this appears to be Mexico’s away shirt for the World Cup.  It looks very Charlie Brown to me.  There is nothing major to report on the US front regarding their World Cup jerseys (I know a couple images are out there floating around, but they look very fake/photoshopped to me).  One loyal OT reader told me he spoke to a soccer shop rep recently and the only description he got from them was one of them would be royal and white while the other would be red.  So all that means nothing really.

  1. Gregory says:

Good article about Timmy Chandler, I thought they were just going to bash him, but he was a well written article.

But Alex Labidou has zero creditability with these bogus Scouting America articles. They are an insult to common sense. He has Luis Gil and Brek Shea currently rated as better players then Timmy Chandler. He doesn’t even say they have higher potential, but are currently better.

How is he allowed to print that?

  2. Gregory says:

    @Matt

How did you leave Bert Patenaude off the XI? haha

  3. Gregory says:

I would say honorable mentions Altidore, J.Jones, Cobi and Harkes.

  4. William says:

    Best XI

    GK – Friedel
    RB – Tony Sanneh
    CB – Alexi Lalas
    CB – Eddie Pope
    LB – Carlos Bocanegra
    DM – Thomas Dooley
    DM – Claudio Reyna
    LW – Landon Donovan
    CM – Tab Ramos
    RW – Cobi Jones
    FW – Eric Wynalda

My favorite players all time (in order): Joe Max-Moore, Brian McBride, Michael Bradley, Landon Donovan, Steve Cherundolo.

Really hard to leave some guys out of my Best XI, but I think that is it…
