As expected, Jurgen Klinsmann called in some reinforcements after all the yellow cards and Michael Bradley’s injury from Friday.

CHICAGO (Sept. 7, 2013) — U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has added four players to the roster for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifier between the United States and Mexico, presented by AT&T.

Club Tijuana midfielder Joe Corona, Houston Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis, San Jose Earthquakes defender Clarence Goodson and Tigres midfielder Jose Torres will all join the U.S. squad in Columbus in advance of the Sept. 10 showdown

  1. Trent Hill says:

Corona and Bedoya into the line-up. F. Johnson to go rightback.

  2. Jerry says:

I would imagine Goodson will go straight into the starting XI with Gonzalez. Bedoya to sit next to Jones, and hope that their communication is good enough to know when each of them need to stay or go. I would think Corona would be the perfect sub for Dempsey if he has another bad game and needs to be subbed late.

I personally think we should use Ice man up top and save EJ for late in the game when we can take advantage of his speed against some tired legs.

  3. daniil says:

I think its imperitave that we start a true striker. Would love to see Johansson get the start. He’s got all the confidence in the world, so the ocassion won’t be too much for him. Also, I don’t reckon mexico has seen too much of johansson. All they’ll have to go on is game footage, and they probably can’t get there hands on too much of his matches.

  4. Cam says:

totally agree daniil…Dempsey didn’t play as terribly in my opinion as in other people’s but he never is at his best when he’s deployed as the lone striker

I also thought that Johansson should’ve have got more of a run in against the Ticos

@Trent Hill why would you put Johnson at RB? he’s one of the only players who can offer any sort of width on the left side

  5. Cam says:

    *natural width i mean

  6. Jaime says:

I agree Cam , not sure what Trent was talking about. I would like to see Diskerud replacing bradley in the mid. Bedoya playing RW and Johansson starting up front. I am not sure why Brooks was sent back to his club. Not happy about that but I do like Goodson in the center.

  7. Trent Hill says:

“@Trent Hill why would you put Johnson at RB? he’s one of the only players who can offer any sort of width on the left side”

“not sure what Trent was talking about. ”

    F. Johnson is really comfortable with both feet. Putting him at Rightback solves that issue against Mexico (last time he played there? Mexico at the Azteca when we drew). F. Johnson is naturally rightfooted and played there a lot for Hoffenheim. I’m not suggesting it as our world cup starting line-up. I’m suggesting he’ll do a job there–you keep Beasley at leftback (since Klinsi wants him there anyway) and you get to plug someone else into the midfield on the left side.

  8. Todd T says:

Trent makes sense but that isn’t likely to happen. FJ has been the only left sided attacking player the US has had over the last three months. I really thought the answer was Donovan at LM and Zusi at RM but alas I am not the coach or any kind of coach for that matter. Somebody explain to me why this wouldn’t work(the original idea was to free FJ up to move to LB but this could allow him to move to RB). This also allows for a lot of flexibility with substitutions…being that u have a lot of versaltity on the field.

  9. Dirk says:

Anyone see this horrible display by Joel Campbell?

  10. Jeffrey says:

“Todd T” look how maliciously Besler backs into Campbell! That cannot be allowed to happen, if FIFA lets this kind of indiscriminate backing up go on who knows the carnage that could accrue. Seriously people what if that was a Gatorade cooler that he had backed into? What would the players drink during the remaining minutes of the game?

  11. Trent Hill says:

    Todd T,

Ideally, to me, I’d put this line-up out (no injuries/yellow card suspensions).

    Howard or Guzan
    Cherundolo/Chandler, Besler, Cameron, FJ
    Bradley and Jones
    Dempsey – Donovan

But in light of suspensions/injuries/recent play?

    Parkhurst, Goodson, Gonzo/Fiscal, FJ
    Donovan, Jones, Mix, Bedoya
    AJ and Dempsey up top.

I want to squeeze Corona in there somewhere. Perhaps him over Mix.

Instead, we’ll probably see Zusi, EJ, and Beckerman.

  12. Trent Hill says:

Er, in that first line-up, Altidore should be beside AJ.

  13. Cam says:

@Trent I agree with that lineup…I like FJ on the left side a lot more
Mix and Bedoya should come on in my opinion too

I saw a potential lineup with Kyle Beckerman in there…i think that would be a mistake

  14. Trent Hill says:

Me too, but JK quite fancies him.

Alternate theory: Michael Bradley has a healing factor ala Wolverine and takes to the field Tuesday night.

  15. daniil says:

I’m sure klinsmann will plug RB with Parkhurst or Orozco. With all the players lost, the thought will be to keep as much unity as possible. This means get Dempsey back in the 10, Fabian at 11, and Gonzalez/Goodson at CB. Given that when bradley went down, Beckerman and Cameron warmed up extra, I think we can expect to see Beckerman out there. Not what I like, but here’s what I expect:

  16. Trent Hill says:

I expect: Beckerman to start, FJ on the left (not right), and Goodson into the centerback pairing.

Hope to see Parkhurst at RB over Orozco.

I expect to see EJ up top, but would muuuuch rather see Aron.
