Here is your US-Costa Rica pre-game primer
September 6, 2013 (12:56 AM) by Matt Benson     Email This Post Email This Post

Here is a quick rundown of things you might want to look at before today’s game.

» The game is at 10 PM Eastern on beIN SPORT.

» Costa Rica is ranked #42 by FIFA and #33 by Elo, while the US is #19 by FIFA and #10 by Elo.

» Here are the official game notes by US Soccer.  As for some other random stats/facts:

The US is 0-7-1 all-time in Costa Rica for WC qualifiers.  They have allowed 2+ goals in each of the last six trips.

The US has won two straight vs. Costa Rica and is looking to win three in a row versus Costa Rica for the second time ever (2002-05).

The US is currently on a 12-game winning streak, its longest winning streak ever, the longest active streak in the world and the longest streak in CONCACAF history.

The US has also held Costa Rica scoreless for the last 204 consecutive minutes as we head into Friday’s game.

» Eight players enter tonight’s game with a yellow card and would miss the Mexico game if they pick one up against the Ticos:  Jozy Altidore, Matt Besler, Michael Bradley, Geoff Cameron, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, Fabian Johnson and Jermaine Jones.

» The US does have a chance to officially qualify for the World Cup after tonight’s game.  The US must beat Costa Rica, Mexico must tie Honduras and Panama must lose or draw against Jamaica.

» As usual, the guys over at The Shin Guardian and The Yanks Are Coming have you covered for game previews.

» The US will be wearing the blue shirt/white shorts/blue socks look against Costa Rica.

» If Jozy Altidore is healthy to play, tomorrow has the chance of being the first game where Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley all started at the same time since 2011 and the first time under Jurgen Klinsmann.

» Alex a.k.a. @tempofreesoccer has the latest on the betting markets for the game.

» A horn-blowing cow invaded the US’s training yesterday.

» And I will leave you with a quote from Michael Bradley on Landon Donovan’s importance to the team.

C’mon guys! Let’s get some predictions going. On a nice field, with a less intimidating crowd and something to prove to the Costa Ricans, I feel a smackdown coming. US 3 Costa Rica 0. I don’t understand the Mexican ref though from a qualification standpoint, but I do feel like they’re probably the best refs in the region and can’t recall a complaint against them.
