Death, taxes and Aron Johannsson scoring for AZ. Johannsson scored AZ’s second goal in their 3-1 win over Atromitos in Europa League action. Johannsson has now scored in five straight games across all competitions for AZ. Here is his goal.
I was happy when I found out he wanted to play for the US. However, I don’t think I realized what the USMNT and Klinsman pulled off. Without getting too excited about a few goals, has anyone really wrapped their head around who we may have just acquired?
Kyle–I was immediately REALLY excited about it. But even for me, I didn’t understand the coup we pulled off. He’s CRAZY good. 5 goals in 5 games across all competitions? That’s nuts.
I’d like to see this against Costa Rica:
=========Iceman – Jozy==========
Donovan ————— Dempsey
=======Jones – Bradley==========
Fabian – Besler – Brooks – Parkhurst/Evans
Donovan and Dempsey wide with Iceman and Jozy in front is just SO tempting.
A Bergkamp esque player. That’s who the USMNT acquired.
I want to see 2 strikers too but id swap Donovan and Dempsey to give the right some creativity, fabian also gets forward more than any current right back so i think dempsey would pair better with him. Either way loving the depth we have.
Aaron–F. Johnson doesnt play on the right. He plays on the left.
I put him at leftback simply because i’m trying to get our best 11 on the field. But, against Costa Rica he would have the opportunity to get forward a good deal.
If we’re including Johannsson as a second striker, I’d like to see a 4-4-2 diamond formation. My starting XI if that’s the preferred formation come next summer:
How can you leave out jermaine jones …. And brooks over Goodson any day
Jaime – Because Jones is a holding defensive midfielder. And in the 4-4-2 diamond, his position is filled by Bradley. Inserting Johannsson means sacrificing someone. And it sure isn’t going to be Dempsey, Donovan, or Bradley. And Fabian’s speed is utilized well on the wings by Jurgen, as shown in the May/June qualifiers. Plus, Jones should focus on not having any more games like the ones he had in Bosnia first before we claim he has a World Cup spot locked down.
As for Goodson and Brooks, I love Brooks potential. I think if we’re setting up spots for Brazil today, I’d bring Brooks and Goodson over Gonzo easily. But Goodson simply (and currently) has more experience at the international level than Brooks. One has to remember Brooks is still a 20 year old just beginning his international career and first season in the Bundesliga. A bit more experience and then I put him ahead of Goodson. Until then however, I think Goodson gets the edge.
I can see Bradley over J.Jones, but I follow the rule that EPL/Bundesliga players start over MLS players. Some expections, but Brooks for example will be facing teams/players every week that will be at Brazil or just as good.
Mid J.Jones, Sacha
LB/RB Lichaj Spector
AJ and JA interchange up top. Donovan attacks down the right side, with Dempsey shifting more centrally in possession. FJ attacks from LB position to fill space on left. Cameron holds deep and Bradley pushes into attack.
Bench: Zusi, EJ (either subs for Donovan), Jones (for Cameron), Chandler, Goodson, Guzan
Okay… playing 2 CMs with dempsey as 1 is completely unworkable. That’s playing 1 center mid. Tactical suicide.
4-4-2 with a box in the middle is more viable, but still weak in the middle. Think of how Ghana had there way with our midfield in south africa (no it wasn’t 100% ricardo clark’s fault).
The only viable modern competitive formations are 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1. We are not going to play 4-3-3 right now because were not built for it (although ussf has bradenton playing 4-3-3 and tells every big youth club to play it, they say they want the usmnt playing 4-3-3 in 10 years). 4-2-3-1 it is. Klinsi likes it. We’ve played it ever since he got here. I don’t think were going to change our formation now, we’ll go with what we’ve been playing the whole cycle and know how to play.
Also I would like to say that our best 2 players right now are still Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley. Clint Dempsey is by far best playing as a 10, not out wide, and Michael Bradley is by far best playing with another CM beside him.
But that’s all moot. We’re going to play 4-2-3-1. The Icelandic Warrior will have to play 10 or play on the wing. All those spots, however, the way we play, require ball-winning. Not sure how much of that johansson will give to you.
what is Aaron Johansson keep scoring for AZ and Jozy (out the door) goes in a big times for Sunderland?
PS I’m not making a sarcastic remark about juicy out the door but my voice to text keeps spelling his last name “out the door”
meant to say big time Slump for Sunderland
