A couple odds and ends
July 30, 2013 (12:01 AM) by Matt Benson     Email This Post Email This Post

I am still pretty bummed about Stuart Holden’s knee.

Howie put together a fun poll: Favorite Jürgen Klinsmann outfit of the summer.  The pocket henley and rugby polo look to be the leaders.

The current 11-game winning streak by the USMNT is tied for the longest in CONCACAF history according to Mr. Chip.  I found a Mexico 11-game streak between 1935 and 1938, but you can also add an 11-game streak by Costa Rica between 1960 and 1961.  The longest winning streak by any country is 15 by Spain in 2008 and 2009, which the US snapped at the 2009 Confederations Cup.

Will Parchman did one of his funny retro diaries on the Gold Cup final.  And Matt from The Shin Guardian did a post-game look at the final.

As Howie pointed out yesterday, Aron Johannsson has decided to play for the US.  He will need to file a one-time switch with FIFA.  Whether it clears in time or not, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him still called into Bosnia game to meet the guys/see a camp.  Here is a list of players that have done this switch to the US according to Brian Sciaretta.

The US U-18 team opened up the Milk Cup with a 1-1 draw to Mexico.  The New York Red Bulls’ Amando Moreno scored the goal for the US.  They next play Northern Ireland (who beat Denmark 2-1 on Monday) on Wednesday.

Sacha Kljestan had to leave Anderlecht’s league season opener after taking an elbow to the ear, causing his ear to rip open.  For those that don’t mind blood and what not, he tweeted out a photo.

Hannover 96 officials think Steve Cherundolo will return to training by mid-August, although nothing is set in stone.

As for right now, Mexico is keeping Jose Manuel “Chepo” de la Torre as their manager.  No need for US fans to create a Kickstarter to keep him.

The weather is incredible in Chicago right now for the summer, so I am going to go back on vacation.  Good talk.

  1. Trent Hill says:

Im excited to have Cherundolo and Chandler back in the rightback picture. Brad Evans is cool and everything…but….yeah.

I hope Aron can play in Bosnia.

  2. Gregory says:

USA is on pace with the new signings. USA needs to keep winning and wait to see if anyone has stepped it up after the Bundesliga winter off-season.

    Danny Potts sightings?

  3. Matt says:

I would need to look into this more when I get back, but I believe it was found out that Danny Potts is not eligible for the US.

  4. Ufficio says:

Yeah, Sciaretta confirmed that he’s not a US citizen.

  5. jagco says:

Was impressed with some of the things Julian Green did today in limited time. Definitely one we must get. He’s a game changer for us.
