After officially becoming a free agent last week (and after being rumored by a few people on his return to MLS), Carlos Bocanegra is returning to the US to play for Chivas USA.
Ives is reporting that Chivas USA traded a 2015 first-round pick and international roster spot to Toronto FC for the top allocation spot in order to grab Bocanegra.
The 34-year-old defender is from Southern California and will get to finish out his career with the Goats. Bocanegra began his professional career with MLS and the Chicago Fire in 2000 before heading to Fulham in 2004. After stops in France (Rennes and Saint-Étienne), Scotland (Rangers) and Spain (Racing Santander), Captain America returns to the US.
As Brian Sciaretta points out, Bocanegra should be somewhat ready for the craziness that is Chivas USA.
So Carlos Bocanegra goes from a financially ruined Rangers to a financially ruined Racing Santander, to mismanaged/misfit Chivas USA
