Somewhat surprising news here. Hoffenheim midfielder Danny Williams, who saw his playing time dwindle down the stretch as the club escaped relegation, has been sold to Reading, recently relegated from the Premier League.
Reading Football Club are delighted to continue our summer rebuilding, having reached an agreement with Hoffenheim for the transfer of American international midfielder Danny Williams.
Williams turned 24 in March, and he will sign a long-term contract at Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2017. The fee involved will remain undisclosed and the deal will be finalised on 1st July, subject to normal ratification of paperwork and international clearance.
Williams of course grew up in Germany, so seeing him make a move to England is surprising in itself. While I’m sure many will be disappointed to see him playing in the second flight, the Football League Championship is better than many top divisions in Europe.
Here is a photo from his instagram account.
