Tim Howard has broken bones in his back

This is not good.

Everton will be without their first-choice goalkeeper, Tim Howard, for several weeks after he broke two bones in his back during the FA Cup win over Oldham Athletic.

There is a good chance that Howard misses the next two USMNT qualifiers.

Luckily there is Brad Guzan.  Guzan is 3-1-1 in five World Cup qualifier starts all-time.

  1. Ian says:

Guzan! (The way the English announcers say it)

  2. Piaggio says:

Thank god Guzan is on fire. Howard is great, but I have no problem with having Guzan on goal for the next few games.

  3. Dirk says:

Yeah, Guzan has been through the fire this year playing behind a young inexperienced defense at Villa, sound familiar? Playing for the USMNT he should feel right at home.

  4. daniil says:

Lol dirk good point, let’s just hope we don’t go through any 8-0 scorelines

  5. Jaime says:

I have no problem with Guzan, he is a proven Goalkeeper in the EPL. I am more concern with Dempsey being out and the choices we have to replace him. I am hoping Joe Corona will be among the selections. I love his creativity in the midfield especially if we pair him with MB… should be fun.

  6. daniil says:

Corona is often thought of as a winger but tijuana play their wings very narrow and he’s played the 10 for them before. I think we have enough CMs that we don’t need corona to slide in but it depends on what formation klinsmann’s ouija board tells him to play. If we go 2-3 in the midfield it might make sense to slot corona as the 10

  7. Todd T says:

Who will be the new number 3 for the goal keepers…Rimando might be a veteran but kinda big drop off from Howard and Guzan.

  8. Todd T says:

Also any word as to what bones are broken? Transverse processes, spinous process, facet joints or the body of the vertebrae? What location: T-spine or L-spine?(if it was the cervical spine they would have said he broke his neck). Was there any neuro signs:numbess, pins and needles radiating downward below the injury site, weakness? Makes a big difference in prognosis.
