Good Day, and welcome to this weekends commentary thread.
The good news is that there are lots of games and lots of US talent on display this weekend. The German leagues are back on full schedule with games at all (4) levels. Bobby Wood (above) should get the start for 1860 Munich, and all the USMNT German Squad are back with their teams. Steve Cherundolo went through (minor) knee surgery on Thursday so he will not be in the Hannover 11 facing Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams, when they take the field for Hoffenheim. In one of this weekends marquee games in Germany Jermaine Jones and Schalke visit Bayern Munich, in a match that will test Schalke’s defensive steel. In England, we may get to see Brek Shea join Geoff Cameron at Stoke as they face off with an improving Reading team. Stuart Holden went 90 minutes in a reserve game early in the week so we may get to see Stuart come on and join Tim Ream as a sub for Bolton. I am sure that Clint Dempsey will play for Tottenham, but I am guessing that he will be starting from the bench. Gooch and Malaga are our main Spanish match, with Carlos Bocanegra and Racing Santander also playing. Finally, in the senior leagues, expect to see Maurice Edu start for Bursaspor in the Turkish Super Lig. These plus an ever-growing list of Americans playing overthere, will keep this weekend one of the busiest this year.
As usual please feel free to comment, chat and express your opinions on this weekends matches, or anything US OT related.

The momentum is with Augsburg with a man advantage thus far in the 2nd half
New from Man Utd v Everton
Sylvain Distin Injured during Everton warm-up…John Heitinga to start instead
Today was to be Distin’s 400th EPL appearance.
He is also replaced on the bench – bad news for Sylvain and Everton
In Italy;
Sampdoria 3 – 1 Roma – Full Time
Bradley goes 67 minutes, Roma woes continue
1 game going on right now
Augsburg 1 – 1 Mainz (67)
starting in a few minutes
Manchester United 0 – 0 Everton
coming up
Waasland-Beveren 0 – 0 Anderlecht at Noon ET
Mainz have totally lost the plot after going a man down at the very end of the 1st half…it’s a shooting gallery for Augsburg
Augsburg picking up corner kicks, now up to 14 so far in the match
Kick Off in EPL
Manchester United 0 – 0 Everton
Manchester will go 12 points clear if they win today
Everton will jump over Arsenal into 5th (Europa League)spot if they win
Shawn Parker (Mainz) has now 2 Red Cards and 1 Goal in 7 Bundesliga appearances – wobbly!!!!
Mainz have been unable to get the ball out of their own half since going a man down.
Woodwork! Van Persie beats Howard but strikes the post
Van Persie around Howard then strikes the outside of the post when he seemed certain to score. A similar miss ruined Fernando Torres’ career
With less than 10 minutes left, Mainz are finally getting some attacking going again.
Goal Manchester United (13) Ryan Giggs sidefooted it in off the post when given too much space in the box
Manchester United 1 – 0 Everton
Amazing!!!!! 23 seasons in a row that Ryan Giggs has scored for Manchester United (That’s a goal in every year of the EPL’s history – 21)
Ten man Mainz have done a fine job blocking shots and keeping Augsburg from getting open chances
Announced:
Sasha Kljestan will start for Anderlecht today.
Michael Parkhurst is given a yellow (90)
While I write: Full Time
Augsburg 1 – 1 Mainz
Augsburg unable to capitalize on being man up, stoic defense by Mainz. Both sides will be disappointed by the result
Michael Parkhurst goes 47 mins in his Bundesliga debut
Shawn Parker’s red card totally changed the game
Caleb Patterson-Sewell starts on the bench for Vitoria Setubal today in Portugal Primeira. Currently;
Vitoria Setubal 1 – 0 Gil Vicente (29)
Ryan Giggs scored his first ever Manchester United goal on 7th September 1991 vs Norwich
Solid Bundesliga debut for Michael Parkhurst. He completed over 90% of his passes, 4 crosses and 70 touches in a little more than a half of play – 47min.
Approaching Half Time in Manchester
Manchester United 2 – 0 Everton (45+1)
coming up in 15 minutes from Belgium
Waasland-Beveren 0 – 0 Anderlecht
Robin van Persie kills the Everton offside trap, rounds Tim Howard and doesn’t make the same mistake twice – finding the net via Heitinga 2 -0 United
And that in Fact is Half Time in Manchester.
2 – 0 in Manchester’s favor – doesn’t seem likely that Everton will salvage this (but, well, its soccer, so you never can be sure)
Half Time in Portugal
Vitoria Setubal 1 – 0 Gil Vicente
Following this weekends games Karlsruher SC and Osnabruck both have 50 pts to lead 3. Liga, Karlsruher lead in goal differential; followed by Preussen Munster, Bielefeld and Heidenheim

Scores Update
Manchester United 2 – 0 Everton (69)
Waasland-Beveren 0 – 0 Anderlecht (25)
Vitoria Setubal 1 – 0 Gil Vicente (67)
In Holland Waasland-Beveren score (41) Kouyaté caught out and Remacle guides the ball high past Proto.
Waasland-Beveren 1 – 0 Anderlecht (43)
If Anderlecht and Sasha want to start a new streak, they better get their fingers out!!!!! Poor performance from Anderlecht
That’s a Final Score in Manchester.
Manchester United 2 – 0 Everton
The Reds go 12 points clear, Everton stay in 6th, but miss out on an opportunity to leap-frog Arsenal
In Portugal Vitoria Setubal hang on to win, Caleb did not get off the bench today
Vitoria Setubal 1 – 0 Gil Vicente (FT)
In Holland
Waasland-Beveren 1 – 0 Anderlecht at the half
Restart In Holland
Waasland-Beveren 1 – 0 Anderlecht (47)
Jose Torres starts for Tigres UANL as they visit Toluca in Mexico Liga MX
Anderlecht bring Ronald Vargas on in place of Massimo Bruno at the break in an effort to breathe some life into the team.
and I guess it worked…….(57) Slide-rule pass from Kanu and Mbokani marks his return with a well-taken goal
Waasland-Beveren 1 – 1 Anderlecht (57)
Anderlecht GK Proto with the fingertip save – amazing from the Golden Shoe contender
Waasland-Beveren 1 – 1 Anderlecht (67)
Scores Update
Waasland-Beveren 1 – 1 Anderlecht (80)
Toluca 0 – 1 Tigres UANL (38)
always after a scores update
(82)Now Mbokani puts in Kanu for Anderlecht’s second goal
Waasland-Beveren 1 – 2 Anderlecht (82)
Bit of a scare; GK Proto goes down injured, Waasland-Beveren score while he is down, ref calls off goal – Beveren coach a little peeved!!!
Half Time in Mexico Liga MX
Toluca 0 – 1 Tigres UANL
Full Time in Holland
Waasland-Beveren 1 – 2 Anderlecht
after a wonky first half Anderlecht get it together and start a new winning streak (maybe) and continue their unbeaten streak.Sasha Kljestan went the 90. Anderlecht are back at 8 points clear at the top of the Pro League
So all in all not a bad weekend (in truth a little slow at times) some goals. Bobby Woods opener for 1860, and Beasley’s brace for Puebla, add to that Bobby Woods assist yesterday and 2 assists for Andrew Wooten today.
That’s it for me today/this weekend. As always thanks for all the chats, opinions and debate. We like that stuff.
I will be looking forward to being here next weekend for “The Thread”
Don’t forget, we are constantly searching for/updating highlights so be sure to come back often to socceroverthere.com and check out whats new & news.
