The US looks to qualify for the U-20 World Cup for the first time since 2009 (and end a two-tournament elimination streak for all youth events) in Puebla, Mexico, February 18-March 3.
GOALKEEPERS (3): Cody Cropper (Southampton FC; Maple Grove, Minn.), Kendall McIntosh (Santa Clara; Santa Rosa, Calif.), Zackary Steffen (FC DELCO Academy; Downington, Pa.)
DEFENDERS (5): Eric Miller (Creighton; Woodbury, Minn.), Juan Pablo Ocegueda (C.D. Guadalajara; Riverside, Calif.), Boyd Okwuonu (North Carolina; Edmund, Okla.), Shane O’Neill (Colorado Rapids; Boulder, Colo.), Javan Torre (UCLA; Santa Monica, Calif.)
MIDFIELDERS (5): Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake; Garden Grove, Calif.), Benji Joya (Santos Laguna; San Jose, Calif.), Mikey Lopez (Sporting Kansas City; Mission, Texas), Caleb Stanko (SC Freiburg; Holly, Mich.), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew; Gahanna, Ohio)
FORWARDS (5): Brandon Allen (Georgetown; Old Bridge, N.J.), Daniel Cuevas (Santos Laguna; Sacramento, Calif.), Daniel Garcia (North Carolina; Dallas, Texas), Mario Rodriguez (1. FC Kaiserslautern; North Hollywood, Calif.) Jose Villarreal (LA Galaxy; Inglewood, Calif.)
It is interesting to see Juan Ocegueda in the squad. He has publicly stated his committment to the US program, but he is on the books for Guadalajara right now.
Why bring 3 GK’s. That seems a little excessive. Also I am noticing a bad trend here. There is a somewhat of a lack of speed with this roster.
If either Okwuono or OCegueda get injured this team will have problems at outside back.
My worrying trend with these new attacking rosters is the lack of a defensive balance. It’s happening at all of the levels now.
Will this be broadcast anywhere?
Oh it also stated that 2 more players will be added.
One surely has to be Pelosi, but the other has peaked my interest. Could it be JAB?
It can be seen on CONCACAF TV.
Sounds like Pelosi might not have released by Liverpool.
I know he was just with france but when might we see maki tall with a us youth team?
It seems like we can start forgetting about JAB
I agree, Maki Tall is 19 now I believe? His father has said his son would be interested in joining a US camp. Or Hurzeler if he is still interested in the US team.
on Maki Tall- He wants to rep France, so I wouldn’t expect to see him ever in a US youth team.
Why would we start forgetting about JAB? He didn’t even play for Germany’s U20′s yesterday. He wasn’t even in there 18 man squad if that is what you are infering about.
Maki Tall is 17.
His father would rather have him play for the states, but Maki Tall has never stated that he wants to.
Pelosi was added to Liverpool’s Europa League roster. He probably won’t play much (if at all), but likely the reason why he wasn’t released.
That said, pretty cool that he was added for his professional career.
2tone he is 17 so maybe a little early to say that, but there is a precedent for players playing for the French at a youth level than representing another nation at the full international leve i.e. Bassong, Chamakh, Kanoute, Moussa Sow, Armand Traore, and quite a few others that aren’t as well known. He sounds like a great prospect, and I would hate to lose him like we did with Subotic or Rossi, however, he is unlikely to be pushing for the french first team anytime soon, so we shouldn’t obsess ourselves with 17 year olds or we will probably run into Chris Hansen soon http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/205/251/hansenlol.jpg?1322001926
I am not really concerned about Maki Tall. There are plenty of talented young attackers in the US youth program. Ones that want nothing more than to represent the U.S.
hopefully Kiesewetter & Bijev are the guys he names. Or best of all John Anthony Brooks.
