Links for your Tuesday morning

Lets dive right into it.

The USMNT roster came out yesterday.  Franco Panizo got some quotes from Jurgen Klinsmann as he discusses the roster.

Speaking of Klinsmann, Roger Bennett looks at the various manager who have influenced Klinsmann throughout his career.

You want some previews for Wednesday’s game?  The Total Soccer Show breaks down the Canada friendly, while also previewing Wednesday’s game.  Leander Schaerlaeckens previews the final phase of qualifying.  And Jon Levy gives us his preview of Wednesday’s game.

I posted the US Soccer tour video of Estadio Olimpico from 2009 yesterday, but I was just reminded tonight that the US Soccer/Gatorade commercial from 2006 features the ceiling tiles shaking from that stadium.  Good times.

Will Parchman is doing a three-part feature on the US’ failed qualification run for the 1986 World Cup and here is Part 1.

Brian Sciaretta has an article up on Timothy Chandler.  And here is photo of a U-16 Chandler from the 2006 Dallas Cup.

David Keyes did a really interesting interview recently with Pachuca’s head of scouting Marco Garcés.  They talk about how Pachuca scouts the various Mexican-American players currently living in the US.

Stuart Holden’s younger brother, Euan, has signed a “non contract terms” deal with English League One side Bury.  Euan last played for Stockport County in the Conference National.

And finally, remember when Roma played Orlando City over the winter break?  I guess I missed his name in the match report, but Christian Eissele played in that game.  Here is Jon Arnold’s interview with Eissele from back in November.

***UPDATE***

Jon just let me know that he talked to Christian last month about that friendly and this is what he had to say.

“The opportunity was great and it was awesome to be able to see that kind of level first-hand. That will definitely benefit me in the future.”

the link for the commercial goes to the stadium tour.

Call me crazy, but I’d like to see Guzan starting in place of Howard. He’s on his game right now, while Howard seems timid in goal these days for Everton.

  3. Kyle says:

I just hate how it is automatic for Howard to start, he should have to fight for his spot like anyone else.

  4. Matt says:

    Fixed the link, Kyle. Thanks.

  5. Cam says:

you wonder why he is automatic? have you watched a USMNT match in the past year? often times howard is the reason the games are close. In the Russia game if he hadn’t made 4 or 5 top drawer saves it would have been out of hand.

RIASA (Christian Eissele)article is really interesting. Kudos to Jon, for getting the mention/linkage. Its interesting to know that teams like Bradford are so involved with player development, especially players from the US, how the Universities play into the equation and RIASA perspective on US Talent.

Its also pretty cool that they are monitoring US Soccer Blogs for info.

  7. Cam says:

not to mention while Howard’s club is fighting for a champions league spot it looks like aston villa will almost certainly be relegated. Yes, Guzan has not played poorly but he looks good sometimes because he makes a few spectacular saves and team gives up 3 or 4. And I know everyone will say it’s the defender’s collective faults, but organizing the back line is, at least partially, the keepers job too. I don’t mean to sound pissed or whatever, but Howard has a so-so match last weekend and you want to bench him?

  8. chris says:

its howards spot but it shouldnt be automatic, guzan is a darn good keeper.
I like this starting 11 for tomorrow
    —————–Howard———————-
    Chandler—-Cameron–Bocanegra—–F.Johnson-
    —————–Williams——————–
    ——-Bradley————–Torres———–
    —————–Dempsey———————
    ———E.Johnson——Gomez—————-
I’d like to see jones and altidore get like 30 off the bench, and gonzolaz to get 5 or 10 to cap tie him

  9. Cam says:

@chris why in the world should E. Johnson start over Altidore?

  10. Ian says:

@chris I liked it too until I saw Johnson over Altidore. What’s up?

  11. Trent Hill says:

Altidore over Johnson all day. ALLLL day. E. Johnson is a sub or winger in Klinsi’s mind here.
