Jozy Altidore recorded a hat trick in AZ’s 4-1 win over Vitesse today.  That gives him 14 league goals and 18 across all competitions in 2012-13.  Here are his goals.

The defending on that third goal was absolutely criminal. Jozy needs to move on from the Dutch league, it’s too easy for him. He can only get better if he challenges himself.

  2. Trent Hill says:

    Take a bow, son, jaysus.

I agree he needs to move up to a league with more staunch defending. Marking was just awful on those goals. Still, he took them well and showed a lot of initiative and smarts. He DOES have a knack for losing defenders.

I believe he is now tied for second in the Eredivisie and the lead goalscorer is out for the ACON now, so he has a chance at Golden Boot if he keeps playing like this.

Pretty sure I wouldn’t look too out of place as a center-half in the Eredivisie. These guys get paid to be traffic cones.

Next step for Jozy imo should be the Bundesliga. If he could latch on with any club in the better half of the league it would be a step up.

  4. Kyle #2 says:

    Born in the USA!!

  5. Jack says:

Really? Douglas, the starting CB for Twente is a traffic cone? The Eredevisie just like the Bundesliga has a couple of really strong clubs with money (Ajax, PSV, Twente), but the rest are more about developing (Vitesse). In other words, there are teams in every league with weak defending, but sure this might be more prevalent in the Erdevise. I’m sure if AZ was playing against Hoffenheim right now, Jozy would put in a couple goals as well. Anyhow, the point here is that Jozy finished when he had to.

The reaction on this and other sites when Jozy gets a hat trick is only skepticism. Instead of, “awesome”, people say, “oh, it’s the Erdevise”. How many goals had Boyd scored in Austria this year?

Anyhow, it’s funny how people make up their minds about a US player and try to twist and turn really good performances into freak accidents (Jozy got luck b/c of bad defending). Why does Gooch play for Malaga (ok, he’s a sub but still gets minutes) Anyhow, look up what confirmation bias is. You’re a textbook example.
