Top 5 Jerseys Worn by Americans Overseas
April 21, 2010 (7:20 AM) by Matt Benson     Email This Post Email This Post

Every once in a while we will try to look at various things and make a Top 5 list.  Some things will be serious, most will not, but I thought I would start off with something easy and take a look at the Top 5 jerseys worn by Americans in Europe for this season.

This is all my opinion.  Feel free to disagree and argue in the comments.

But take a look at my Top 5 list after the jump.

#5.  SC Freiburg  (German Bundesliga) – Home

Worn by Daniel Williams this season, this jersey is pretty simple, yet classy.  It is the same style the  USMNT wore the past two years, but I am a fan of the basic/classic look.  Too many teams get way too flashy and  it can look horrible.  SC Freiburg also sport white shorts and socks for this all white look.

#4. AC Milan (Italian Serie A) – Home

Another classic look worn by Oguchi Onyewu this year.  Good color scheme, although I am not 100% on the collar, but still better than most.

#3. Stade Rennes (French Ligue 1) – Home

I normally dislike Puma’s jerseys, but I like this one.   More red and black done well.  Jerseys can sometimes be ruined by the sponsor’s logo, but I like the font of the giant S.  Hopefully Carlos Bocanegra can get healthy again, so we can see him wearing it a couple more times this season.

#2. Aris Salonika (Greek Super League) – Road

Worn by both Freddy Adu and Eddie Johnson this season, this is one of the few Reebok kits I have liked over the years.   Maybe it is the Iowa Hawkeye fan in me, but I am a sucker for black and gold.

#1. Stabæk (Norwegian Eliteserien) – Home

I sort of contradict myself with previous comments by selecting this one.  Worn by Mikkel Diskerud in Norway, this jersey is a bit flashy, but still done well.  It is a Puma kit, which I normally don’t like, but this one is good.  I always like the light blue and they match it well with a dark blue.  Overall, it is  just my favorite out of all the teams with Americans in Europe this season.

What do you think?  Am I a complete moron?  Which jersey did I not include that you love?  Which of the jerseys above looks horrible in your mind?  Leave some thoughts in the comments, we would like to get more fan feedback on the site.

I also want to point out that one of my all-time favs worn by an American is Michael Bradley’s home kit for Heerenveen in 2007-08 with the weird little heart things.

Actually, those are not hearts on the Heerenveen shirt. They are lilypads.

Thanks for the exact correction, Greg. Do you have any personal favs?
