The OT Report – Weekend Edition

It has been a while since I last did one of these, but my weekends are starting to free up at work and I should hopefully start doing these again.  Lets get on to what happened.

Clint Dempsey had a nice weekend in Tottenham’s 3-0 win in FA Cup action.  Deuce found the back of the net twice and he had one of his deflected shots knocked in by Gareth Bale (highlights here).  The FA Cup was not nice to everyone as US US-20 defender Will Packwood broke his leg in Birmingham City’s 1-1 draw to Leeds United.

While one player got injured this weekend, another player returned from injury.  Conor Doyle came off the bench for Derby County in their 5-0 win.  It was Doyle’s first action since September after having his appendix removed in October.

And also of note, Herculez Gomez kicked off the Clausura with a goal in Santos Laguna’s 1-1 draw to San Luis (highlights here).

Here is how everyone did this weekend.

Michael Bradley (Roma – Italian Serie A) – Michael got the start and went the full 90 minutes in Roma’s 4-1 loss to Napoli.

Geoff Cameron (Stoke City – English Premier League) – Geoff got the start and went the full 90 minutes in Stoke City’s 0-0 draw to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

Clint Dempsey (Tottenham Hotspur – English Premier League) – Clint got the start, went the full 90 minutes and scored two goals in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 victory over Coventry City in the FA Cup.

Conor Doyle (Derby County – English League Championship) – Conor came off the bench and played 12 minutes in Derby County’s 5-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup.

Brad Friedel (Tottenham Hotspur – English Premier League) – Brad got the start and went the full 90 minutes in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 victory over Coventry City in the FA Cup.

Mike Grella (Scunthorpe United – English League One) – Mike came off the bench and played 15 minutes in Scunthorpe United’s 0-0 draw to Shrewsbury Town.

Eric Lichaj (Aston Villa – English Premier League) – Eric got the start and went the full 90 minutes in Aston Villa’s 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town in the FA Cup.

Will Packwood (Birmingham City – English League Championship) – Will got the start and played 65 minutes in Birmingham City’s 1-1 draw to Leeds United in the FA Cup.

Caleb Patterson-Sewell (Vitória Setúbal – Portuguese Primeira Liga) – Caleb got the start and went the full 90 minutes in Vitória Setúbal’s 4-2 loss to Académica.

Steven Silva Rodrigues (Leixões – Portuguese Liga de Honra) – Steven got the start and went the full 90 minutes in Leixões’ 2-0 loss to Sporting Covilhã.

Frank Simek (Carlisle United – English League One) – Frank got the start and went the full 90 minutes in Carlisle United’s 4-0 loss to Swindon Town.

I read that Doyle had an assist on the 5th Derby goal.

  2. Matt says:

Here is Mason Bennett’s goal (Derby’s fifth goal), but the highlight was cut so short that you can’t tell if Doyle passed it to him or not.

Cool, thanks! I know it might technically count, but personally I don’t give a guy an assist when the other player still has that much work to do before shooting. It’s great that Doyle’s back on the field though.
