Following the first straight red of his professional career, Schalke 04 midfielder Jermaine Jones has been suspended for four matches. Schalke has four hours to appeal, which they plan to.
This means that Jones will miss:
Dec. 15 vs. SC Freiburg
Jan. 18 vs. Hannover 96
Jan. 26 @ FC Augsburg
Feb. 2 vs. SpVgg Greuther Furth
With his return likely to come February 9 at Bayern Munich.
Since Jones won’t have anything to do in January, will he again spend January in California with the MLS-Scandanivan camp leading into the February 6 hex opener at Honduras? He did that earlier this year after his eight-week suspension.

If Jones’s suspension gets him called to the cupcake camp maybe he can help John Antohny Brooks feel at home?? Jones can at-least show Bundesliga caliber play during the camp like last year.
It could be argued J.Jones has had on if the best USMNT club careers. He is an athlete and will only be 32 next World Cup. I agree with the comments that J.Jones fouls are more tactical then wild, at his age he would not be playing for a Bundesliga powerhouse if he did not have a high soccer IQ.
J.Jones problem with the USMNT is that at times he has the best touch on the pitch. J.Jones needs to be a role player/enforcer to be at his best. Michael Bradley being in form is key to this. Also 1 other midfielder is needed, a midfielder on the level of Stuart Holden. I think Edgar Castillo’s recent Mexican title should get him a start over J.Jones at LM. J.Jones and Danny Williams should platoon at CDM.
Jones is a middle of the pitch kind of player, so is Michael Bradley. I just don’t think they work that well together. For me Jones is cover.
this additional suspension is egregious.
Agreed with Kyle. He’s a professional fouler, not a malicious one.
@Gregory….Can you name a time when Jermaine Jones has been the player with the best touch on the the pitch for the USMNT?
His touch is good, not the best, but I like his vision even more. Jones and Bradley both see some passes that others do not.
Bradley definitely helps build out of the back..Jones isn’t bad and it but he is far more defensive
@Cam
If Bradley, Landon, Fabian, Chandler, or Dempsey are not on the field Jones might have the best touch. Jones has also taken numerous corners for the USA. I do not think he every takes corners for Schalke. Some players like Zusi or Sacha have a better touch but Jones is in a different league then these players.
Bradley and Jones aren’t even comparable in my mind really. Yes they both play consistently for big clubs, but there’s a gulf in class between Bradley and JJ, which we’ve seen with their time with the Nats. JJ is like Bradley without the polishing. Rash fouls, occasional terrible touches, and ability to see a pass, but not always make it.
Andy…boo-yah, nailed it
