Mainz vs. Eintracht Frankfurt Highlights
   November 27, 2012 (7:26 PM) by Matt

USMNT eligible Shawn Parker had a goal and an assist in Mainz’s 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt today.  Parker is actively playing with Germany’s U-20s, but he would be eligible to play for the US.  We can dream.  Here are the highlights.

    Here’s hoping.

  2. Marcus says:

Hopeless case – the guy is just too good for the USMNT. Considering the fact He is already playing for h;is home country and that he plays the one position the Germans seem to lack young talent > zero chance for JK…

I mean c’mon – if Johnson, Williams, Jones Boyd would have had the chance to play for their countries Senior team they wouldn’t play for the USMNT. Exhibit A: Chandler, Timothy…

  3. 2tone says:

Germany have their hooks firmly set in Parker. Don’t expect him to make a switch to the USMNT anytime soon, if ever.

But USMNT fans should be extremely excited about Bobby Wood being fully healthy again. Most fans and analysts will tell you that he was considered to be more talented than Gyau, Gatt, and Agudelo in the last U-20 cycle. Very gifted player/FWD that if he continues to see significant minutes for 1860 and continues to stay healthy; I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the Gold Cup team this summer.

  4. Trent Hill says:

Parker won’t be coming to the USMNT soon. But, he may come a bit later. Hard to break into that Germany setup.

  5. 2tone says:

The dude is 18. he has plenty of time to break into the Senior German side. Don’t expect Parker to switch at all to the USMNT.

  6. Gregory says:

Germany has so much depth and youth that Parker will not get a call-up anytime soon unless he gets a transfer to an elite Bundesliga team or becomes a goal-scoring machine. Keep in mind Gomez, Muller and Polodski will all be under 30 next World Cup.

Parker will be 20 in March,; by this time next year he should know if Germany wants him or not.

  7. Andy says:

Agree with Gregory here. It’s certainly not out of the question with all the depth Germany has. Muller, Podolski, Gotze, Reus, Shurrle, Draxler, Sidney Sam, etc. can all play his position and are young. With proper recruitment from JK/German-American players, he could definitely be interested.
