Timothy Chandler to play for USMNT in Russia friendly?
   November 9, 2012 (9:55 AM) by Matt

Brian Sciaretta tweeted out this German report which claims Timothy Chandler will be playing with the USMNT in the friendly against Russia.

Google Translate to the (badly translated) rescue!

As an antidote counterattack are thought to provide the especially the resurgent Timothy Chandler on the right wing. His impressive performance a week ago against Wolfsburg has earned him an invitation promptly by U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann for a friendly match against Russia. “I take this very much,” said the 22-year-old who had recently canceled several times.

***UPDATE***

Sciaretta got more confirmation.

  1. William says:

I won’t count on that dude until he suits up and is capped in a WCQ.

  2. Steffen says:

Can’t trust Chandler until he’s cap-tied, but it would allow Fabian Johnson to move to LW with Landon so flaky and Shea out 3 months.

    Howard

    ‘Dolo—Cameron—Goodson—Chandler

    Bradley—Williams

    E. Johnson——Dempsey——F. Johnson

    Altidore

  3. 2tone says:

Uhm no we I do not want to see Johnson moved to LW. All you are doing is weakening to posisitions. More than likely if Chandler starts you will see him at RW.

  4. Trent Hill says:

I don’t want Donovan off the field and I don’t want F. Johnson moved. If Chandler comes into camp, leave him out of the starting line-up. If he has a bad attitude, keep him benched and don’t call him back. If he has a good attitude, sub him in for Dolo.

  5. John says:

    @Trent Hill: Timothy doesn’t have a bad attitude…

  6. Gregory says:

Chandler at RW makes sense and Chandler should start over Zusi.

He might have to stay a RW if he looks good. USMNT has more depth at RB then RM/RW.

Daniels Williams would look alot better at RB then RM. Cameron can play RB. Alfredo Morales one day? Not to mention the Mayor Dolo is still in good form.

  7. Piaggio says:

*Ahem* Gatt, Donovan, Shea and Zusi can all play RM. I’d say keep Chandler on the bench to back up both Johnson and Dolo.

  8. Gregory says:

@Piaggio all the RM you listed only Donovan has showed anything. And he just stated he’s 50-50 on next World Cup.

Shea and Zusi do not belong with the A squad. They play in the MLS and will most likely never play in the EPL/Bundesliga/Seria A. If they played vs Ghana they would get pushed around and bullied all game. Guatemala made Zusi looked bad at keeping possession.

Gatt is unproven and injury prone. Gatt needs to stay healthy and get a transfer to a better league.

Chandler is an attacking threat from the wing in the Bundesliga, he should be given credit for that.

  9. daniil says:

The only way brek shea will never play an EPL/Bundesliga/Serie A game is if he ends up in Spain. Am I the only one who remembers when he went around mexicans like training cones at the Azteca? The last 2 times we scored against Mexico both came from Shea spellcasting his way around defenses. And he is still pretty young.

As for timmy chandler, he can have his place on the bench and he ought to be pleased with it. If he’s not we’ll do without him. I certainly hope jk teaches Timmy that he has to prove that he cares to be a part of the team before he’s an automatic.
