Fabian Johnson and Edgar Castillo to miss Antigua and Barbuda qualifier
   October 10, 2012 (5:26 PM) by Howie

Are you left-footed? Do you play soccer? Give Jürgen Klinsmann a call as he might need your services.

Johnson has the flu and will hopefully be able to go for the Guatemala match:

“Fabian has been ill since the weekend, and we were waiting to see if he would be healthy enough to join us in Miami” for training camp, Klinsmann said. “At this point, it is in everyone’s best interest to allow him to fully recover from his illness and come into Kansas City ready to play against Guatemala.”

Castillo has hurt his foot and won’t play for the next few weeks according to Brian Sciaretta:

I can confirm that Edgar Castillo is set to miss two weeks with his injured foot. That will have him miss games for the #usmnt & Club TJ

According to multiple reporters, there won’t be a replacement for Antigua. Replacements are possible for Guatemala.

    Someone call Jeff Agoos!

  2. Badwolfdc says:

Jozy put a little Haitian Voodoo on JK

  3. samsminiarmy.wordpress.com says:

    I just don’t get it.
Call Josh Gatt, Mix Diskerud or even Freddy Adu into the attack.
Wait, we just lost two fullbacks right? Eric Lichaj is sitting around in the English Midlands with his thumb in his bum…CALL HIM IN!!!
I just don’t see the logic in going into this short handed.

  4. Jaime says:

I been saying the same thing…. what is the point of not replacing the injured players.. I honestly think JK is underestimating these games.. and the worst thing is that if he doesnt make it pass this round he will be out but we will have to wait until 2018 for another chance.. I dont think he cares as much as we do…

  5. Dirk says:

He wouldn’t dare move Bocanegra to LB would he? I know Carlos has played there but it’s not his best position.

If he makes no roster moves then has Parkhurst ever played on the left side? Because I can’t think who else could play there.

  6. Manny says:

    I’m freaking out!!

  7. Todd says:

Simmer down…Boca is solid down the left side but offers little into the attack(with crosses I mean…he is good on set pieces. I have to admit this gives me some concern but they should still win. If they do then he will be praised for having confidence in his team…if not then the call for his dismissal will come from all concers of the states.

  8. Ian says:

@Todd So what you’re saying is Klinsmann is making a gamble where the only possible benefit is him looking good and the downside is he’s fired but the US is also knocked out of World Cup qualifying. I think I’d rather he swallow his pride and bring in a couple replacement players.

  9. Todd says:

@Ian…actually I think he has what he needs to win. I was just looking at the point of view of public perception. Don’t you think we could win this game with MLS players? Let alone a team with Dempsey, Bradley and Williams(in the correct position). We got plenty!!!!!

  10. Jerry says:

Let Klinsi know to give me a call, I’m left footed, and I’m located in Orlando so I can make the short drive to Miami.

  11. Ian says:

@Todd I completely agree that we should dominate the Antigua game even with the players we have, unfortunately it’s been a very hit and miss regime under Klinsmann. What happens if he puts Bocanegra at leftback and he gets abused or injured? Who do you put in then? It’s completely illogical for him not to call anyone in just because of the confidence he has, confidence that is probably unwarranted based on his record in qualifying thus far. Antigua is not 2008′s Barbados. They have shown they can compete and Guatemala is always a pain to play. I’m not saying it’s likely, but a win over Antigua and then a loss to Guatemala or two draws is not beyond the realm of possibilities.
