Aron Jóhannsson will play for Iceland
   October 3, 2012 (6:05 PM) by Howie

After a breakout start to the Danish Superliga season (eleven goals in eleven matches), Aron Jóhannsson became a folk hero of sorts among American soccer fans with Internet connections. Alas, the dream has died as Jóhannsson has opted to accept a callup to World Cup qualifiers with the bad guys from D2.

I never really expected to see Jóhannsson with the Nats— his ties with the land of Vonlenska were considerably stronger than with the US Of A– although it’s still disappointing. This would cap-tie him unless he can’t find his passport.

I think this is for the best. Good luck to him.

  2. Davis says:

I could not see him in a US kit. It would have been cool but he is a born and raised icelander.

  3. Todd says:

Actually he was born in Alabama. I am not good with geography but I think that is in the US. As for his descision to play for Iceland…no biggie. Wasn’t on the radar except for a couple of months now he is gone.

  4. Mike says:

    Excellent Mighty Ducks reference.
