Links and whatnot for Tuesday
October 6, 2015 (12:00 AM) by Matt Benson

We are closing in on the CONCACAF Cup and the game is officially a sellout.

In case you missed it on Saturday, here is the US roster.  While a couple guys are injured (Aron Johannsson and John Brooks), I guess the biggest “snub” would be Omar Gonzalez considering he started one of the September friendlies so you would think he would be “on the depth chart” at centerback.

Jurgen Klinsmann talked to US Soccer’s website about the roster.  He also talked to ESPN’s Doug McIntyre.

Jozy Altidore told ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle that the last two years have been rough.

This isn’t the first time the US and Mexico have met in a playoff.  They also played in a World Cup playoff in 1934.

As for Mexico, Andres Guardado was once thought to be out with an injury, but he is healthy now.  Although El Tri will be without the services of Giovani dos Santos due to an injury picked up this weekend.

Want some more info on Mexico?  Alicia Rodriguez has you covered.

The US U-23ers have opened Olympic qualifying with wins against Canada (highlights) and Cuba (highlights).  They take on Panama in the last group stage match tonight and I believe they only need a draw to win the group (and could even win the group with a loss depending on goal differential).

Over in Group B, Mexico and Honduras play on Wednesday with the loser likely facing the US in the all important semifinal (a draw would mean Honduras would finish second and play the US if the US can clinch their group).

One player joining the US U-23 team this week is goalkeeper Ethan Horvath since he was still in Norway playing for Molde FK.  He has seen his stock rise in the last couple months as he was named to UEFA.com’s Europa League Team of the Week and Edwin van der Sar had some nice things to say about him.  And Brian Sciaretta talked to Horvath recently about his rapid rise.

Sticking with goalkeepers, the last time we heard from Aleks Gogic, he was talking to our Will Reno about playing with the Nike Academy.  Now the 19-year-old has a new home and it is with League One side Fleetwood Town until the end of the season.  And the Cod Army already have an American goalkeeper on the roster in Brendan Moore.

Bobby Wood is off to a good start in Germany and he talked to Greg Seltzer about the season so far.

American Joe Enochs is now the manager of German 3. Liga club VfL Osnabrück.

We had a bunch of goals this weekend and some highlights from Danny Williams, Andrew Stadler, Erik Hurtado, Kyle Curinga, Jon-Paul Pittman and Conor O’Brien.  Plus Andrew Wooten dished out two assists.

And finally, Club Tijuana’s website has a little story up on US U-17 World Cup forward Brandon Vazquez.

October 4, 2015 (3:43 PM) by Matt Benson

Cole Grossman (got the start and went the full 90) and the Fighting Bob Bradleys got the 4-1 win yesterday, but Erik Hurtado scored Mjøndalen’s lone goal in the loss to Stabæk.  Here are some highlights with Hurtado’s goal coming at the 1:00 mark.
