Links and other nonsense for Friday
August 14, 2015 (12:04 AM) by Matt Benson

The Bundesliga starts up this weekend and Bundesglia Fanatic has done a player profile on Aron Johannsson.  ESPN FC also did a phone interview with ArJo.  His new club, Werder Bremen, hosts Schalke on Saturday.

Brazil is bringing a pretty decent team to the US for September’s friendly.

While next summer’s Copa America Centenario is still up in the air, CONCACAF is proceeding like the tournament is still on as they have scheduled qualifiers for CONCACAF’s remaining two spots (US, Mexico, Costa Rica and Jamaica have already qualified).

Costa Rica will have a new manager as Paulo Wanchope has resigned after losing his mind at an U-23 match earlier this week.  As Howie pointed out, between him and Miguel Herrera, the Hex might come down to fighting coaches so the US might as well appoint Peter Vermes as manager.

US Soccer is trying to trademark “Dos a Cero”.

Greg Seltzer put together a random stat thingie on players in their second seasons in Europe in honor of Rubio Rubin.

While all signs point to Tim Ream going to QPR, nothing official has been announced yet and ESPN’s Peter O’Rourke is hearing that Fulham could still be in the hunt.

Bob Bradley has begun working on a contract extension with Stabæk.

Cody Cropper made his pro debut earlier this week in MK Dons’ 2-1 win over Leyton Orient in the Capital One Cup.  Cropper talked to Brian Sciaretta about the experience.

Brian Sciaretta also talked to Nermin Crnkic this week about FK Jablonec and Europa League.

Now for the Tijuana section of the links.  John Requejo Jr. scored a goal with their U-20 team this week, while Brandon Vazquez had two goals and an assist with their U-17 team.  Michael Orozco talked to Tijuana’s website about this weekend’s game against Cruz Azul.  Orozco is also on a cool poster outside the stadium.

Some more players are popping up on lower level teams in Europe.  Will John is now with RoPS in Finland.  Kevin Sawchak is back in Finland, but this time with Honka.  And Charlie Butte has left SF Siegen in Germany for SV Oberwart in Austria.

And finally, some youth players are making the move to Europe.  U-18 defender Sam Golan has signed with Brighton & Hove Albion.  U-14 right back John Hilton is getting close to a move to Ajax.  And why not have a 10-year-old (Troy McKee) sign with Aston Villa.

Enjoy the weekend.
