Catching up on links
May 28, 2015 (1:24 AM) by Matt Benson

I am still playing catch up on the soccer world as work decided to kick me as soon as I got back into the office after the mini vacation.  Enough babbling.

In case you missed what happened on the field over the past weekend, Roderick has you covered.  I was finally able to go back to update the goal tracker from the few goals over the last week, including links to goals by Moises Orozco, Cesar Romero, Björn Maars Johnsen, Harrison Hanley and Jonathan Bornstein.

Also earlier this week, we unveiled the sixth edition of the legendary OT XI.  Plus we picked our MVP of the season as well as goal and performance of the year.  So go check that out.

The USMNT will face Germany on June 10 and will face a pretty tough roster (shocker!) although it is missing Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller.

Also while glancing at rosters, Mexico’s provisional Gold Cup roster features 11 players who play abroad.

The US U-23 team opened up the Toulon Tournament with a disappointing 3-1 loss to France yesterday.  Here are some highlights.  Sounds like Jordan Morris was the only player who did somewhat well for the US.  Also, if you missed the roster of the team (since it came out while I was gone), here that is.  Luis Gil was apparently on the initial roster, but Real Salt Lake was able to keep him after a little talk with US Soccer.

One player on that roster, Cody Cropper, is searching for a new club after parting ways with Southampton.  While he is likely to stay in England, Ives Galarcep is hearing that Cropper is on the discovery list of at least three MLS teams.

The US U-20 team is getting ready for the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand and Tab Ramos had to make one roster change since Russell Canouse picked up an injury.  He was replaced by Orlando City’s Conor Donovan.  Landon Donovan also made an appearance at training this week.

Junior Flores is not on the U-20 roster and is now giving El Salvador a look as of last week.

A few players picked up new contracts in Europe over the last week.  Alfredo Morales will be playing in the Bundesliga next season as he signed an extension with Ingolstadt.  Geoff Cameron is sticking with Stoke City through 2018.  And Jon-Paul Pittman re-signed with Grimsby Town.

Nothing super new to report on Josh Gatt’s latest injury, but he is waiting on a second opinion to discover how good/bad the knee is.

DeAndre Yedlin went the full 90 minutes yesterday in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over the Malaysia XI All-Stars.  Here is a photo gallery from the game.

Oguchi Onyewu is training/trailing with NYCFC.

The man, the myth, the legend, Jonathan Bornstein was on MLS’ ExtraTime Radio this week.

Antonee Robinson was named Everton’s Academy Players’ Player of the Year.

Will recently interviewed Iranian-American goalkeeper Ashkan Khosravi.  He also updated his May goalkeeper post with a bunch of goodies.

Oh yeah, something happened with FIFA this week.

Hump day link randomness
April 22, 2015 (12:46 AM) by Matt Benson

A bunch of links that are all over the place.

Roderick is over in Europe on vacation so no The OT Report for this past weekend.  As for some highlights, we had goals by Cole Grossman, Evin Nadaner, Cesar Romero, Björn Maars Johnsen, Jay Denny and a brace by Christian Pulisic.  We also had assists by Joe Corona and Aron JohannssonFreddy Adu made his debut in Finland.  Bobby Wood returned from injury and started for Erzgebirge Aue.

As for the mid week so far, Gedion Zelalem help setup a goal for Arsenal’s U-21 team.  Michael Orozco had an assist as Puebla won the Copa MX final over Chivas (Herculez Gomez watched from the bench).  And Andrija Novakovich scored a goal for Reading’s U-21 team.

The US U-20 team is in Austria this week and here is their roster.  They had a 2-2 draw against Qatar yesterday with the US goals coming from Amando Moreno and Conor Donovan.

The US U-23 team will take on Mexico later tonight at the StubHub Center.  Here is their roster.  Apparently manager Andi Herzog asked Hamburg permission for Julian Green to stay after last week’s friendly against Mexico for this game but they didn’t respond yes to him until Green was already on a plane back to Germany.  Herzog also wants to create a pipeline to the USMNT with the U-23 team.  And  Liviu Bird’s random observation from training earlier this week, Jordan Morris has Type 1 diabetes and tests his blood sugar during training.

For those of you that miss watching grainy Youtube videos of Josh Gatt flying down the wings, we have some good news.  He has been cleared to play again after a couple knee surgeries.

Hannover 96 did some shuffling around of their coaching staff and Steve Cherundolo has been promoted to an assistant.

Greg Seltzer took a look at Danny Williams’ performance in the FA Cup semifinals from the weekend.

The USMNT’s 2-0 victory over Mexico last week did well ratings-wise for Fox Sports 1.

Pele thinks the US should host the 2026 World Cup.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Gedion Zelalem made The Telegraph’s Top 35 hottest prospects in who play in England list.

Mukwelle Akale and Villarreal won the División de Honor Juvenil de Fútbol Group 7 title.

And finally, Tim Ream is better than Jordan Spieth at golf.
