A couple things for Friday
June 26, 2015 (7:36 AM) by Matt Benson

A couple things before the weekend.

Brek Shea was not selected to the Gold Cup roster due to a groin injury.

Here is your post-roster release Q&A with Jurgen Klinsmann.

Will Packwood is now on trial with the New York Red Bulls.

Giuseppe Gentile is leaving Swiss side FC Chiasso to go out on loan with his former NASL team (San Antonio Scorpions).

Welcome back, Caleb Stanko.

Cole Grossman and the Fighting Bob Bradleys keep winning in the Norwegian Cup.

Go USWNT and enjoy the weekend.

Some links before the weekend

Some reading material as you countdown until the weekend.

Coming off a 1-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday (highlights), the US U-20 team found out that it will be playing El Salvador on Saturday in the win-or-go-home playoff match to determine who will go to this summer’s U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.  The game will be on Fox Sports 2 at 5:00 PM Eastern.  The US will have a chance to get some revenge on El Salvador as they knocked out the 2012 U-23 team from qualifying for the 2012 Olympics. (UPDATE – Looks like the game is now on Fox Soccer Plus).

US Soccer also put up a video on Tommy Thompson yesterday.

Speaking of the U-23 team, Ives Galarcep decided to guess at a possible Olympic qualifying team of MLS players since some of the European-based played might not get released for qualification.

Joe Corona returned from his broken foot to score in Tijuana’s Copa MX match on Wednesday (highlights).  Jon Arnold (who has been everywhere this week) was at Estadio Caliente on Wednesday and got some post-game quotes from Corona.  Tijuana’s website also got some words from Corona following the game.

Jon Arnold also spoke to Mix Diskerud this week at the USMNT camp.

In case you missed it on Wednesday, Sacha Kljestan scored two nearly identical goals in Anderlecht’s Belgian Cup win (highlights).  And Eric Lichaj was subbed off after only 32 minutes in Nottingham Forest’s 3-2 loss to Fulham.

Still unemployed, but apparently Juan Agudelo is mulling over some offers.

For those of you with a Darlington Nagbe-to-USMNT countdown clock, you can probably move the time up a bit.  Most people thought he would become a US citizen at the end of 2015 but it now looks like it could be September according to Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson.

Brad Guzan did a little Q&A action with ESPN FC this week.

With the Bundesliga on winter break, Greg Seltzer decided to do a midseason report card on John Brooks, Timothy Chandler, Julian Green, Joe Gyau, Fabian Johnson and Caleb Stanko.

Mukwelle Akale turned 18 recently so he officially joined Villarreal this week.

Giuseppe Gentile, who bounced around USL Pro/NASL last season, has signed with Swiss Challenge League club FC Chiasso.

And finally, Kevin Dzierzawski is headed on loan to Scottish League One side Peterhead.  Dzierzawski has been with Queen of the South in Scotland since 2013-14.

Enjoy the weekend.
