Tuesday morning links
January 20, 2015 (12:02 AM) by Matt Benson

A bunch of random stuff for you on this Tuesday.

The US U-20 team picked up a 2-0 win over Jamaica on Sunday (highlights).  They just need a win or a tie on Wednesday against Trinidad & Tobago to advance to the playoff round.  It was announced during the broadcast that Kellyn Acosta will miss the rest of the tournament due to a knee injury, while Junior Flores came off the bench and played after missing a game with an ankle injury.

Also over the weekend, Herculez Gomez scored his first goal for Puebla since returning to La Franja (highlights).

We posted the rumored 2015 USMNT away jersey back in December and now it looks like it could have some legs as Alex Morgan was recently seen in the shirt.

The USMNT’s friendly against Chile is listed on US Soccer’s website as being broadcasted on Fox Sports 2, but it looks like it might have switched to Fox Sports 1 along with a pre-game show.

Jon Arnold is in sunny SoCal for the USMNT camp and spoke to Tesho Akindele about his international options and to Bobby Wood about seeking an exit from 1860 Munich during this transfer window.

I don’t think I posted this last week but Brad Evans left the camp due to a knee injury.

The Guardian’s Tom Gottlieb takes a look at the USMNT defense and why it might be the weak link at the moment.

The Toronto Sun’s Kurtis Larson writes how Michael Bradley is a big reason why Jozy Altidore is now with Toronto FC.

As MLSE CEO Tim Leiweke explained to the Toronto Sun on Friday, sacrifice for the crest is certainly one of those principles.

The club’s head honcho told me Bradley restructured part of his deal with the Reds to help bring Altidore back to MLS. The prospects of playing alongside Altidore brought back memories that made it an easy decision.

“I think about what it has been like to play on so many big days with Jozy,” Bradley said. “We’d be standing in the tunnel and you’ll look over at him and he’ll give you a little wink.

“You know he’s ready and you know you’re ready.”

For those of you that watched ESPN’s Inside: U.S. Soccer’s March to Brazil, you might remember Michael Bradley was recruiting Jozy back then.

Now that numerous teams in MLS are interested in Sacha Kljestan, Anderlecht general manager Herman Van Holsbeeck wants Kljestan to stay for at least a couple months since Anderlecht has lost a couple players due to injury and the African Cup of Nations.  Greg Seltzer is also hearing that some European teams are interested in him along with various MLS clubs.

We did have some other goals this past weekend that came in some friendlies.  Fabian Johnson scored a goal in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 1-0 win over Rot-Weiss Essen (photo).  And Andrew Wooten scored a goal in Sandhausen’s 4-2 win over Jahn Regensburg.

Alejandro Bedoya did a video interview with BeIN Sports recently.

Jose Torres had back surgery and is going to be out for 10-12 weeks according to Tigres.

Dillon Powers just picked up his Italian passport last week.  And according to Greg Seltzer, there are some teams in Italy interested in the Colorado Rapids midfielder (Plano Senior High School represent!).

And as Howie posted yesterday, Northwestern goalkeeper Tyler Miller is skipping MLS for the German fourth division.
