Links and such for Wednesday
January 7, 2015 (1:58 AM) by Matt Benson

A bunch of little goodies from the last couple of days.

The latest and greatest Mix Diskerud rumor has him close to signing with NYCFC according to Ives Galarcep.

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid is drawing interest from Italian and English clubs according to Steven Goff.

Hamid along with DC United teammates Perry Kitchen and Steve Birnbaum apparently made the USMNT’s January camp preliminary roster.

Camp begins January 12 and we should see a roster in the next few days.  Jurgen Klinsmann/US Soccer released a video earlier this week to various members of the press where he explained that 2015 will focus a lot of attention on the youth teams, especially the U-23 Olympic team.

“The main task for 2015 is definitely the Olympic team, the U-23 team, to get that off the ground. To identify players, get camps on the agenda, get games on the agenda for that team, and help them to kind of build a core group towards the qualifiers. We want to make sure that what happened with London 2012 is not happening again. We put this on a higher priority level and I think that’s exciting.”

He also confirmed that Brek Shea will be in January’s camp.

Another player Klinsmann talked about was Bobby Wood, who continues to have a falling out with 1860 Munich and could be headed somewhere in January.

We know the US will be playing at the Netherlands in June and now we know they will likely being playing at Amsterdam ArenA.

Tab Ramos selected his 20-man roster for the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship on Monday.  While Ben Spencer is on the roster, apparently CONCACAF’s website had Joel Sonora’s name on the roster at first.  It looks like Sonora originally made the team, but was pulled off due to an injury.

While the US U-20 team camped in Florida last week, they defeated a Florida select team 6-0 and beat Trinidad & Tobago 2-0.  Someone on the team also brought a selfie stick.  All five games of the group stage will be broadcasted on FS2, starting with Friday’s game against Guatemala at 5:30 PM Eastern.

Franco Panizo talked to Paul Arriola earlier this week about the U-20 team and we also learned that he might be headed to MLS on a loan deal to try and get more playing time.

It is looking more and more like we can cross Diego Fagundez off the potential US list.

FIFA.com has a new interview up with DeAndre Yedlin.

Tom Marshall caught up with Omar Salgado to talk about his move to Tigres.

Jose Torres is going to miss Tigres’ opener against Atlas with a herniated disc.

Joe Gyau is expected to be back to full training with Borussia Dortmund in early February as he continues to recover from his knee injury.

Midfielder Cole Grossman is the latest American to head to Norway to join the Fighting Bob Bradleys of Stabæk.

Liverpool are trying to get a Home Office clearance/work permit for Brooks Lennon in order to sign the 17-year-old forward.

This is your monthly reminder that Jermaine Jones and his family are awesome.

With 2014 ending, we have closed off our 2014 goal tracker.  Jann George led the way with 20 goals across all competitions in the calendar year.  I have already setup the 2015 page as Jon-Paul Pittman scored a goal on January 1 while we were too busy watching the Big Ten beat up on the SEC West.

Two documentary recommendations for you guys.  If you haven’t seen it yet, Roger Bennett did a nice one on Southampton and their their pride in developing youth players.  And here is a fun one on the Crazy Gang, which is the Wimbledon teams of the late 1980s. (h/t Zack Goldman).

And finally, we can blame Alex Olshansky for bringing this to my attention, but here is the weird BBC intro for the US/Portugal match from last summer’s World Cup.  You can tell even Gary Lineker thought it was odd at the end of the video.
