With CONCACAF Under-20 Championship fever rapidly infecting the nation, USA U-20 coach Tab Ramos is set to take the squad to Marbella, Spain, for a tournament next week. Nineteen players were called up to face Russia’s U-21s, Ireland’s U-20s, and Canada’s U-20s.

Defenders (7): Cameron Carter-Vickers (Tottenham Hotspur), Luis Martir (Guadalajara), Matth Miazga (New York Red Bulls), Shaquell Moore (Unattached), Tommy Redding (Orlando City), John Requejo (Tijuana), Tyler Turner (Orlando City)
Midfielders (7): Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas), Russell Canouse (Hoffenheim), Junior Flores (Borussia Dortmund), Romain Gall (Columbus Crew), Lynden Gooch (Sunderland), Emerson Hyndman (Fulham), Joel Soñora (Boca Juniors)
Forwards (3): Andrija Novakovich (Reading), Tommy Thompson (San Jose Earthquakes), Dembakwi Yomba (Atlético Madrid)

At this point I doubt the matches are streamed but we’ll definitely keep you posted.

A bunch of links before the weekend
November 7, 2014 (12:02 AM) by Matt Benson

It’s Friday and here are some links.

I posted yesterday the news that Tesho Akindele turned down an invite with the Canadian national team to keep things open with the US.  And now Ives Galarcep is hearing that Akindele will be called in by the USMNT next week.

Jurgen Klinsmann is not happy with the performances of many of the USMNTers since the World Cup.  Here are some short videos of Klinsmann talking about facing Colombia in London and the fan support at Craven Cottage.

Speaking of Craven Cottage, Kyle McCarthy looks at the connection between the USMNT and Craven Cottage.

Jozy Altidore’s agent, Lyle Yorks, is headed to Sunderland to talk to the club about his future.  HITC’s Andrew Gibney takes a look at why a loan to France would be a good move for multiple parties.  Jozy also turned 25 yesterday.  According to the always good Paul Carr, his 24 international goals are the second most in USMNT history before turning 25.  Some guy named Landon Donovan leads the way with 27.

Speaking of numbers, go check out where Rubio Rubin’s four assists rank in Europe among players 20 or younger.

Two Americans saw the field in Europa League action on Thursday.  Tim Howard recorded the 150th shutout of his European club career in a 3-0 win over Lille.  He was pretty happy.  Fabian Johnson got the start at right back in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 2-0 win.  Here is a photo of him in action.

I posted some highlights of Anderlecht’s dramatic three-goal comeback to draw with Arsenal earlier this week and now Greg Seltzer broke down Sacha Kljestan’s performance of the game.

Danny Williams came back from his injury last weekend while coming off the bench and now he made his first start since the injury, going 67 minutes in Reading’s mid-weeek 3-0 win over Rotherham.

Michael Orozco went the distance in Puebla’s loss on penalty kicks to Santos Laguna in the Copa MX final on Wednesday.

I missed this earlier in the week, but Geoff Cameron made WhoScored’s Team of the Week for his performance from last weekend.

Orlando City’s Tommy Redding is headed to Benfica in December for yet another MLS offseason training stint.

Brian Sciaretta has a pair of interviews worth checking out this week.  One with Fulham legend Brian McBride and one with Nepal national team manager Jack Stefanowski.

Grant Wahl talked to Mia Hamm this week about her new role with Roma and LAFC.

Travis Clark caught up with David Najem about life in the German Regionalliga.

Here is a look at what could happen if the World Cup is shifted to the winter in 2022.

Who doesn’t life tifos?

And finally, the USMNT roster for the next friendlies will likely be announced on Monday.  In the mean time, here are some names on John D. Halloran’s radar for next summer’s Gold Cup.
