A bunch of link goodies for Thursday
September 24, 2015 (12:12 AM) by Matt Benson

This week has been a crazy one for me and of course 2354356456 guys have scored goals this week.  As always, our goal tracker has a bunch of information on who scored and links to those available highlights.

As for some of the highlights of recent goals, we have had goals by Bobby Wood, Shawn Barry, Fabian Johnson, Björn Maars Johnsen (and again), Aron Johannsson, Mario Rodriguez, Christian Eissele, Eugene Starikov, Luca de la Torre, Nermin Crnkic, Jakeem Johnson and Russell Canouse.

Julian Green scored a goal yesterday with Bayern Munich II.  Haven’t found highlights yet, but here is a photo of him celebrating the goal.

To go with his goal from the weekend (linked above), Mario Rodriguez scored again yesterday.

Rubio Rubin came off the bench and scored a goal in the Dutch Cup earlier this week.

Cameron Carter-Vickers wore the captain’s armband and scored a goal for Tottenham’s U-21 team earlier this week.

As for Fabian Johnson’s goal linked above, it came in the fifth minute and according to Paul Carr, that would be the earliest Bundesliga goal by an American since Tony Sanneh in 1999.

DeAndre Yedlin made his Sunderland debut this week in a 4-1 loss to Manchester City in the League Cup.  He assisted on Sunderland’s lone goal.  Someone made a video of his performance.  Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat had some nice things to say about him.  Greg Seltzer also broke down his debut.

The Fighting Bob Bradleys were knocked out by Rosenborg in the semifinals of the Norwegian Cup yesterday in overtime.

Tim Howard’s shutout over the weekend was his 128th in the Premier League, tying him with Peter Schmeichel for ninth most all-time.

Speaking of goalkeepers, what if I told you Will Reno wrote some things on the US goalies?

With the CONCACAF Cup quickly approaching, Mexico looks to be without another player as Rafa Marquez is going to be out with a groin injury.  And there have been some rumors this week that Sao Paulo’s Juan Carlos Osorio will be El Tri’s next manager.

Brian Sciaretta talked to Tab Ramos about the US U-20 team and why US Soccer is creating U-16 and U-19 teams.

The US U-17 team is down in Mexico for its last camp before the U-17 World Cup.

If you have an ESPN Insider account, Doug McIntyre ranks his Top 21 US players under the age of 21.

Here is a two part (Part 1 | Part 2) interview with Terrence Boyd done in German (and Google Translate doesn’t want to work right now).

The Irish Times did a story on Jake Keegan last week.

According to one report, free agent Zak Whitbread turned down a deal with Blackpool.

San Diego-native Anthony Wright has joined Nottingham Forest’s youth academy.

And finally, Will Daniels finished the season in Iceland with Aegir with 12 goals in 17 games and took home some hardware.

It has been a while since we did one of these links posts
June 23, 2015 (1:16 AM) by Matt Benson

Some of these links might be a little old.  Some of these links might be only a couple days old.  And some of these links will be new.

Good talk.

While we had one DeAndre Yedlin loan rumor last week, all signs are pointing to him going out on loan next season.

As Grant Wahl first reported when the Gold Cup provisional roster was released, Stoke City wanted Geoff Cameron to take time off to rest up.

Speaking of the Gold Cup roster, the final 23-man roster should be released today or tomorrow.  And before it comes out, take a look at John D. Halloran’s guess at the final roster.  And Clint Dempsey will not be suspended for the tournament.

Staying with the Gold Cup theme, Costa Rica will be without the services of goalkeeper Keylor Navas due to injury.

Also in injury news, Josh Gatt’s knee injury is not serious after a second opinion.

In classic silly season form, it looks like we are still waiting to hear whether Bobby Wood will sign with Stuttgart or not.  According to Greg Seltzer, Kaiserslautern is also in the running.

Seltzer has been dropping a bunch of other nuggets over the last couple weeks.  Everyone’s favorite Armenian Premier League Golden Boot winner Cesar Romero is getting interest from Serbia and Russia.

Also courtesy of Mr. Seltzer, Cody Cropper turned down an offer from one MLS team and he is getting some interest from a couple teams in England.

Zak Whitbread has also had some early talks with teams in England and back here in the US.

Down in Mexico, Michael Orozco made a fiscal decision and signed with Club Tijuana.

Good ol’ sources have told Ives Galarcep that Herculez Gomez is in talks with the New York Cosmos and he is getting some interest from MLS.

Shawn Barry has been kicking it with LASK Linz in Austria the last few seasons and he has parlayed his recent success to a move to German 2. Bundesliga side FSV Frankfurt.

Hertha Berlin has offered John Brooks a contract extension through 2019.

Here is some more coal to throw into the Gedion Zelalem hype train fire.

Shaquell Moore signed with Huracan in Spain’s third division back in May and they are one game away from playing in the second division.

Bobby Warshaw wrote some words on Michael Bradley.

Björn Maars Johnsen scored three goals in a friendly last week.

The second round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying finished up earlier this month.  The third round draw will take place in late July.

And finally, O When The Yanks introduces us to teenager Ian Hoffmann who is doing well at FC Köln.
