A bunch of stuff before the weekend.

The latest FIFA rankings came out yesterday with the US moving up one spot to #17.  The US is still the third-highest ranked team in CONCACAF with Costa Rica at #15 and Mexico at #16.

According to Steven Goff, the US has sold about 25,000 tickets for the October 10 friendly against Ecuador in Hartford.

Yesterday was Thursday and Thursday means Europa League.  Tim Howard was a beast as he tied a Europa League record with 12 saves in Everton’s 4-1 win over Wolfsburg (highlights).  And Fabian Johnson started on the left wing for Borussia Mönchengladbach in their 1-1 draw to Villarreal.

The UEFA Youth League also had some games this week with Gedion Zelalem going the distance in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Junior Flores (71 minutes) and Borussia Dormund.  Here is a photo of them both in action.  Zelalem also had a pretty nice assist last week in an Arsenal youth game back in England.

Herculez Gomez scored a goal in Tigres’ 1-0 win over Queretaro in Copa MX action on Wednesday (highlights).  It was also Ronaldinho’s debut for Queretaro.

Emerson Hyndman will have a new manager at Fulham as Felix Magath has been sacked after the dumpster fire of a start by the Cottagers this season.

Sticking at Craven Cottage, remember when Clint Dempsey had his hand all wrapped up for a couple of weeks in 2010?  According to Danny Murphy, it was because Dempsey punched a window after finding out that he wouldn’t start in the Europa League semifinal.  Dempsey can still rap as well.

The English FA has proposed some changes about foreign players obtaining work permits in the UK.  And as Jeremiah Oshan points out, this could help Americans like DeAndre Yedlin if the US can continue to be a Top 30 team.  And here is your reminder that Yedlin is really fast.

Terrence Boyd has returned to some solo training this week.

Someone pointed out this tweet from August to me today, but it looks like Josh Gatt is hoping for a January return.

Greg Seltzer takes a look at some possible dual nationals for the USMNT as we begin the 2018 cycle.

Stoke City are setting up some academies in the US and Canada.

Jeffrey Donovan talked to Alfredo Morales about earning his second cap and some other things for ASN.

Right back Travis Brent signed with Heracles Almelo in the Netherlands last month.  He has played in at least one U-21 game over the last month.

Dembakwi Yomba assisted on a goal for one of Atletico Madrid’s youth teams this week.

Kenya Brown talked to Alex Rodier as he begins his second season in Poland with LKS Lomza.

And congrats to Jon Arnold for guest hosting Soccer Morning yesterday.  It seems like yesterday that he was writing about Christian Eissele for us.  He is all grown up.
